Khalid ibn al-Walid’s Conquest of Hira
Hadith 35984
٣٥٩٨٤ - حدثنا أبو أسامة قال: أخبرنا مجالد قال: أخبرنا عامر قال: كتب خالد إلى مرازبة فارس وهو بالحيرة ودفعه إلى (بني) (١) بُقَيَلة، قال عامر: وأنا قرأته عند (بني) (٢) بقيلة: بسم اللَّه الرحمن الرحيم من خالد بن الوليد إلى مرازبة فارس، ⦗١١⦘ سلام على من اتبع الهدى، فإني أحمد إليكم اللَّه الذي لا إله إلا هو، أما بعد ((أ) (٣) حمد اللَّه) (٤) الذي (فض) (٥) خدمتكم وفرق كلمتكم ووهن بأسكم وسلب ملككم، فإذا جاءكم كتابي هذا فابعثوا إلي بالرهن، واعتقدوا مني الذمة، وأجيبوا إلى الجزية، فإن لم تفعلوا فواللَّه الذي لا إله إلا هو لأسيرن إليكم بقوم يحبون الموت كحبكم الحياة، والسلام على من اتبع الهدى (٦).
Hazrat Aamir narrates that Hazrat Khalid bin Waleed was in Hira. He wrote a letter from there to the chiefs of Persia. He gave that letter to Banu Baqeelah, and I read it in their presence. In that letter it was written: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful: From Khalid bin Waleed to the chiefs of Persia. Peace be upon those who follow guidance. I praise Allah, besides whom there is no deity. All praise is for Allah who has scattered your powers, separated your hearts, weakened your strength, and taken away your wealth. When this letter of mine reaches you, send the jizya to me, and accept living with us as dhimmis. If you do not do so, then by Allah, besides whom there is no deity, I will send to you a people who love death as you love life. And peace be upon those who follow guidance.
Hadith 35985
٣٥٩٨٥ - حدثنا عبد الرحيم بن سليمان عن زكريا بن أبي زائدة عن خالد بن سلمة القرشي عن عامر الشعبي قال: كتب خالد بن الوليد (زمن الحيرة) (١) إلى مرازبة فارس: ﷽ من خالد بن الوليد إلى مرازية فارس، سلام على من اتبع الهدى، أما بعد فإني أحمد إليكم اللَّه الذي لا إله إلا هو، الحمد للَّه الذي (فض) (٢) خدمتكم وفرق جمعكم وخالف بين كلمتكم، فإذا جاءكم كتابي هذا فاعتقدوا مني الذمة، وأجيبوا إلى الجزية، فإن لم تفعلوا أتيتكم بقوم يحبون الموت (حبكم) (٣) الحياة (٤).
Hazrat Amir Sha'bi narrates that Hazrat Khalid bin Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) wrote a letter from Hira to the chiefs of Persia, in which it was written: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful: From Khalid bin Walid to the chiefs of Persia. Hadith 35986
٣٥٩٨٦ - حدثنا جعفر بن عون قال: أخبرنا يونس عن أبي السفر قال: لما قدم خالد بن الوليد إلى الحيرة نزل على بني المرازبة قال: فأتي ⦗١٢⦘ بالسم (فأخذه) (١) (فجعله) (٢) في راحته وقال: بسم اللَّه، فاقتحمه، فلم يضره بإذن اللَّه شيئا (٣).
Hazrat Abu Safar narrates that when Hazrat Khalid bin Waleed (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Hira and stayed with the Banu Marazbah, poison was brought to him there. He placed it on his palm, took the name of Allah, and then drank it. But by Allah's command, that poison could not harm him in any way.
Hadith 35987
٣٥٩٨٧ - حدثنا محمد بن عبد اللَّه الأسدي قال: ثنا حسن بن صالح عن الأسود بن قيس عن أبيه قال: صالحنا أهل الحيرة على ألف درهم (ورحل) (١)، قال: قلت: يا أبة، ما كنتم تصنعون (بالرحل) (٢)؟ قال: لم يكن لصاحب لنا رحل (٣).
Hazrat Aswad bin Qais narrates from his father that we made a peace agreement with the people of Hira in exchange for one thousand dirhams and one camel saddle. I asked them, "O father! What did you people do with the saddles?" He replied that none of our companions had a saddle.
Hadith 35988
٣٥٩٨٨ - حدثنا (هشيم عن) (١) حصين قال: لما قدم خالد بن الوليد هاهنا إذ هو بمشيخة لأهل فارس عليهم رجل يقال له هزارمرد، فذكروا من عظيم (خلقه) (٢) وشجاعته، قال: فقتله خالد بن الوليد، ثم دعا بغدائه فتغدى وهو متكئ على (جيفته) (٣) - (يعني جسده) (٤) (٥).
Hazrat Husain narrates that when Hazrat Khalid bin Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) came to conquer Persia, he learned that there was a man there whose name was Hazaar Mard. People informed him that this man was very brave and strong. Hazrat Khalid killed him, then ordered his food to be brought and sat by his corpse and ate.
Hadith 35989
٣٥٩٨٩ - حدثنا عفان قال: ثنا حماد بن سلمة عن عاصم عن أبي وائل أن خالد بن الوليد كتب: ⦗١٣⦘ ﷽ من خالد بن الوليد إلى رستم (ومهران) (١) وملأ (فارس) (٢)، سلام على من اتبع الهدى، فإني أحمد إليكم اللَّه الذي لا إله إلا هو، أما بعد فإني أعرض عليكم الإسلام، فإن أقررتم به فلكم ما لأهل الإسلام، وعليكم ما على أهل الإسلام، وإن أبيتم فإني أعرض عليكم الجزية، فإن أقررتم بالجزية فلكم ما لأهل الجزية، وعليكم ما على أهل الجزية، (وإن) (٣) أبيتم فإن عندي رجالا (تحب) (٤) القتال كما تحب فارس الخمر (٥).
Hazrat Abu Wa’il narrates that Hazrat Khalid bin Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) wrote in a letter: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful: From Khalid bin Walid to Rustam, Mehran, and the chiefs of Persia. Peace be upon those who follow guidance. I praise before you Allah, besides whom there is no deity. After praise and blessings! I invite you to Islam. If you accept Islam, you will receive everything that is for the people of Islam, and upon you will be everything that is obligatory upon Muslims. If you refuse to accept Islam, then I invite you to pay Jizya; if you begin to pay Jizya, you will receive everything that is given to those who pay Jizya, and upon you will be everything that is obligatory upon those who pay Jizya. And if you refuse, then I have with me such men who love fighting as much as the people of Persia love wine.
Hadith 35990
٣٥٩٩٠ - حدثنا أبو أسامة قال: ثنا إسماعيل عن قيس قال: سمعت خالد بن الوليد يحدث بالحيرة (عن) (١) يوم مؤتة (٢).
Hazrat Qais narrates that I heard Hazrat Khalid bin Waleed (may Allah be pleased with him) in Hira talking about the Battle of Mu'tah.
