Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Mak’hool (may Allah be pleased with him) says that khums is also like fai; from it, the Imam will give to both the rich and the poor. Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz wrote: The way of general fai is also the way of khums.

35540 - He said: And Laith ibn Abi Ruqayya informed me where Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz wrote that the way of the khums is the same as the way of the general fay’.

Hazrat Hajjaj bin Thabit narrates that news reached me that two persons from Banu Abdul Muttalib came to the service of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) and asked for charity. The Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Not now, but when you see that I have the wealth of khums with me, then come to me (I will give it to you).

Hazrat Mujahid says that charity is not permissible for the family of Muhammad ﷺ. They will receive one-fifth of the one-fifth (of the spoils of war).

It is narrated from Hasan that Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) gave one person ten thousand, nine thousand, eight thousand, and seven thousand from the spoils of war.

Hazrat Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked how the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to distribute the khums. Hazrat Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him) would give from it to one mujahid, then to another, then to a third.
