Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Shahab says that at the gate of Tustar, I was the first person who lit a fire. Hazrat Ash'ari fell from his horse. Then, when we conquered it, I was appointed as the leader over ten men of my tribe, and before the distribution of the spoils, in addition to my share and my horse's share, I was given an extra share as a gift.

It is narrated from the nephew of Hazrat Khalid bin Waleed that Hazrat Harith said to him, "Give me something." He gave him a share from the khums before the spoils of war were distributed, but he disliked it and said, "When the khums has been taken out, then give me."

Hazrat Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said that nothing will be given to anyone before the spoils are distributed, except to the shepherd, the guard, and the one who drives the animals.

It is narrated from Muhammad (may Allah have mercy on him) that before the spoils of war were distributed, something was sent to Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), but he refused and said: I will not take it until the spoils have been distributed.

Hazrat Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) says that no gift should be given to anyone before extracting the khums.

Hasan says that the gift will be given after the khums.

Hazrat Saeed bin Al-Musayyib (may Allah have mercy on him) states that the noble Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) used to give gifts and the like after taking out the khums.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Sirin (may Allah have mercy on him) that Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) participated in jihad with Hazrat Ubaidullah bin Ziyad. The narrator states that Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) was given thirty captives. Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) inquired whether they were from the khums (one-fifth share). Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) refused to accept them.
