Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Tariq bin Shihab Al-Ahmasi (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Banu Atard from among the people of Basra participated in the battle, and they assisted Hazrat Umamah from Kufa. Hazrat Ammar left before the battle, then later said that we too are partners with you in the spoils. A man from Banu Atard stood up and said, "O you, whose ear is cut off"—Hazrat Ammar's ear was martyred in jihad—"do you want us to give you a share from our spoils?" Hazrat Ammar replied, "You have taunted me about my best and most beloved ear." Then Hazrat Ammar wrote to Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) about this matter. Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) replied in writing that only he who participates in the battle and victory will get a share in the spoils.

It is narrated from Hazrat Tariq bin Shihab that Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "There is a share in the spoils for the one who participates in the battle."

It is narrated from Ibrahim that on the day of the Battle of Jamal, after the fighting, some people came to Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "These are the deprived ones," (he indicated towards the verse of the Holy Qur'an: 'for the beggar and the deprived' __QUR_N__). Then he gave them a share from the spoils of war.

It is narrated from Hazrat Hasan bin Muhammad (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet sent a detachment; they obtained spoils of war, then after them some other people arrived, so this blessed verse was revealed { فِی أَمْوَالِہِمْ حَقٌّ مَعْلُومٌ لِلسَّائِلِ وَالْمَحْرُومِ }.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), in the explanation of the verse of the Holy Qur'an { لِلسَّائِلِ وَالْمَحْرُومِ }, says that by this is meant "deprived."

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), regarding the interpretation of the word "mahrum" in the verse { لِلسَّائِلِ وَالْمَحْرُومِ } of the Quran, states that "mahrum" is the person for whom no share of the spoils of war has been allocated in Islam.

It is narrated from Hazrat Duhak (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet ﷺ sent out some initial detachments. After they had departed, the Noble Prophet ﷺ received some spoils of war. The Prophet ﷺ distributed the spoils among the people and did not give anything to those detachments. When those detachments returned, they said that the Messenger of Allah had distributed the spoils but did not give us a share. Regarding them, this verse was revealed: { وَمَا کَانَ لِنَبِیٍّ أَنْ یَغُلَّ }

Ibrahim (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding the deprived person says that he is the one who has no share in the spoils.

The same is also narrated from Hazrat Mujahid (may Allah be pleased with him).
