Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) allotted two shares for the horseman and one share for the foot soldier.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) granted three shares to a horseman: one share for himself and two shares for his horse.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would allocate two shares for the horse and one share for its rider, then the horseman would receive three shares.

It is narrated from Hazrat Salih bin Kaysan (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the day of the Battle of Khaybar, the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) allotted shares for two hundred horses, and would give each horse two shares.

Hazrat Salamah narrates from the companions of Muhammad (peace be upon him) that a horseman will receive two shares and a foot soldier will receive one share.

It is narrated from Hazrat Mak'hool (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) allotted two shares for a horseman and one share for a foot soldier.

It is narrated from Hazrat Mujahid (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) allotted two shares for the horse and one share for the horseman.

Hazrat Hakam states that the first to allocate two shares for a horse was Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him); a person from Banu Tamim indicated towards this.

It is narrated from Hazrat Yahya bin Abbad that Hazrat Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) received four shares: two shares for his horse, one share for himself, and one share for his mother and relatives.

Hazrat Juwaybir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that we were in the region of Khurasan when Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz wrote to us that it has reached us through reliable narrators that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) granted three shares to a horseman: two shares for his horse and one share for himself, and granted one share to a foot soldier. And regarding horses, he said: Arab, Muqaraf, and Baradhin (different breeds of horses) are equal in this ruling.

It is narrated from Hasan and Hazrat Ibn Sirin, may Allah have mercy on him, that when the noble Companions l were victorious in jihad and obtained spoils of war, at the time of distribution of the spoils, the horseman would receive three shares—two for his horse and one for himself—and the foot soldier would receive one share.

It is narrated from Hazrat Hakam that the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) allotted two shares for a horseman and one share for a foot soldier.

It is also narrated in a similar manner from Hazrat Khalid bin Ma'dan (may Allah be pleased with him).

Hazrat Amr bin Maymoon (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz wrote to the people of Jazirah: "To proceed! In the blessed era of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him), two shares were fixed for a horse and one share for a rider. Then why does anyone, with the intention of reducing their share, put them in doubt and hesitation, until people made it so? Among those who fight in these forts, return to them the shares that were in the time of the Messenger of Allah __QUR_N__, those shares were that two shares were fixed for a horse and one share for its rider. How do you reduce the share of the horse, whereas by Allah’s command it grazes in the pasture at night, and during the day is assigned to guard the borders, and also because the horses seek what the Mujahideen seek."

It is narrated from Hazrat Yahya bin Abbad (may Allah be pleased with him) that Hazrat Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) had four shares: two shares for the horse, one share for his mother, and one share for the heirs.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aamir (may Allah be pleased with him) that when Hazrat Ma’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) conquered the place of Jalula, thirty thousand captives came into the possession of the Muslims as spoils of war. He distributed three thousand mithqals to each horseman and one thousand mithqals to each foot soldier.
