Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Urwah bin Zubair (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) distributed a piece of land from the lands obtained from Banu Nadir, which contained date palm trees and other trees, and Hazrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) also distributed it.

Hazrat Urwah bin Zubair (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made Hazrat Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) the owner of a piece of land from the lands of Banu Nadir. There were also date palm trees on that land. And Hazrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) made Hazrat Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) the owner of land by the riverbank. And Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) made him the owner of an entire valley.

Hazrat Urwah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made Hazrat Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) the owner of the land with date palm trees.

Hazrat Ibrahim bin Muhajir (may Allah have mercy on him) says that I asked Hazrat Musa bin Talha (may Allah have mercy on him) about this matter, so he (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated to me that Hazrat Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) made Hazrat Khabbab (may Allah be pleased with him), Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), Hazrat Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him), and Hazrat Suhaib (may Allah be pleased with him) each the owner of separate lands.

Hazrat Musa bin Talha (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) gave land to five persons from among the companions (may Allah be pleased with them) of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Among them were Hazrat Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), Hazrat Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him), Hazrat Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him), Hazrat Khabbab (may Allah be pleased with him), and Hazrat Usama bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him).

Hazrat Ja'far, may Allah have mercy on him, narrates from his father that Hazrat Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, made Hazrat Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, the owner of a spring and, in addition, granted him even more.

Hazrat Muhammad bin Ubaidullah Al-Thaqafi (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that a man from the tribe of Thaqif, whose name was Nafi’ Abu Abdullah, came to Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). He was the first person who made the barren valley of Basra a pasture. He submitted: O Commander of the Faithful! There is a piece of land near us in Basra which is not land subject to Kharaj (tax), and it will not harm any Muslim if you deem it appropriate, then grant it to me so that I may grow grass there for my horses. Please do so. The narrator says: Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) wrote a letter to Hazrat Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him): If the matter is as he has said, then grant that land to him.

Hazrat Ibn Aun (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that a person from the tribe of Banu Zuraiq stated that Hazrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) allotted a piece of land to Hazrat Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) and also wrote a document for him regarding this, and appointed witnesses to it, among whom Hazrat Umar was also included. Hazrat Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) took the document to Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: Put a seal on this. He (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: I will not put a seal on this. Is this only for you, leaving the rest of the people? The narrator says: Hazrat Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) left in a state of great anger. Then he went to Hazrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: By Allah! I do not know whether you are the Caliph or Umar? He (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: No! Rather, Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) has only refused!

Hazrat Ja'far, may Allah have mercy on him, narrates that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, made Hazrat Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, the owner of the land at Faqireen Maqam, the well of Qais, and the tree.

Hazrat Yahya bin Qais (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from a man that Abyad bin Hammal requested the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for a salty well at the place of Ma’rib. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to grant him that well. Meanwhile, a companion submitted to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), “It is like running water that flows continuously.” So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) refused to grant that place.

Hazrat Jabir, may Allah have mercy on him, narrates that Hazrat Amir, may Allah have mercy on him, said: Neither Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, granted lands, nor did Hazrat Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, nor did Hazrat Ali, may Allah be pleased with him. The first person to make people owners of land was Hazrat Uthman. During the caliphate of Hazrat Uthman, may Allah have mercy on him, lands were sold.

Hazrat Ubaidah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) gave land to Aqra’ bin Habis and Uyainah bin Hisn, and also wrote a document for both of them.
