Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says that it is not appropriate for anyone to bear enmity towards Usama (may Allah be pleased with him) after hearing this statement of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) from me. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever loves Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), then he should also love Usama.

Hazrat Qais, may Allah have mercy on him, narrates that when the father of Hazrat Usama bin Zaid, may Allah be pleased with him, was killed, he was standing before the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. And the blessed tears of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, were flowing. Then the next day came and he was standing in the same place before you, peace and blessings be upon him. So the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to him: Today I am meeting you at the same place where I met you yesterday?

Hazrat Urwah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prepared an army to send towards Mu'tah and appointed Hazrat Usamah bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) as their commander, even though Hazrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) were also in that army. The narrator says: It was as if the people expressed displeasure at the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) for appointing Usamah as the commander of the army. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up to deliver a sermon and said: Surely, some of you have expressed displeasure to me over appointing Usamah as commander. And indeed, before appointing Usamah, you also expressed displeasure over his father being appointed as commander. By Allah! He was more deserving of leadership. And indeed, he was the most beloved to me among the people. And after him, his son is also the most beloved to me among the people. And indeed, I hope that he will be among your righteous ones. So treat him well.

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that Hazrat Usama (may Allah be pleased with him) stumbled on the door frame and fell, injuring his face. Upon this, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: Remove the thing causing him pain, so I removed it. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) kept sucking the blood and rinsing his mouth. And he said: If Usama were a girl, I would have dressed her in clothes and adorned her with jewelry until I sold her.

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) never sent Zaid bin Harithah (may Allah be pleased with him) with any army except that he appointed him as its commander. And if he (Zaid) had lived after the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), the Prophet would have made him the caliph.

Hazrat Salim bin Abdullah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: We used to call him only by the name of Zaid bin Muhammad ﷺ until the verse of the Qur'an was revealed: Call them by (the names of) their fathers. That is more just in the sight of Allah.

Hazrat Bara bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him): O Zaid, you are our brother and our friend.

The aforementioned hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is also narrated from Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him).
