Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: Your permission to enter the house is that the curtain is lifted, and you hear my voice, and you may come in unless I forbid you.

Hazrat Abu al-Malih al-Hudhali (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) used to screen when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ghusl, and he used to wake the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when he slept, and he used to walk alone with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on the ground.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Shaddad Kanani, may Allah have mercy on him, states that Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with him, was the confidant who would lift the cushion of the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him and his family.

Hazrat Qasim (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) used to put shoes on the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and would walk ahead of him.

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If I were to appoint anyone as a caliph without consultation, I would appoint Ibn Umm Abd (may Allah be pleased with him).

Hazrat Asim bin Abi Najood (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Zir bin Hubaish (may Allah have mercy on him) said: People used to laugh at the fact that when the wind blew strongly, it would toss Hazrat Abdullah around. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Surely, on the Day of Resurrection, he will be heavier in Allah’s scale than the mountain of Uhud.

Hazrat Tamim bin Hazlam, may Allah have mercy on him, says that I have attended the gatherings of many companions of Muhammad, may Allah be pleased with him. The gatherings of Hazrat Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, and Hazrat Umar, may Allah be pleased with him. But I have not seen anyone more disinterested in the world and more desirous of the Hereafter than Ibn Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with him. O Abdullah bin Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with him, nor do I wish that on the Day of Judgment I should be with them instead of you, may Allah be pleased with him.

Hazrat Qasim bin Abdur Rahman (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I have liked for my Ummah whatever Ibn Umm Abd has liked.

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed Hazrat Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) to climb a tree and bring some fruit. The companions of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah be pleased with them) began to laugh upon seeing his thin shins. Upon this, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Why are you laughing? The leg of Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) will be heavier on the scale than the mountain of Uhud.

Hazrat Abdur Rahman (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I saw myself as the sixth among six. There was no other Muslim on the face of the earth besides us.

Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever wishes to recite the Holy Qur'an fresh, as it was revealed, then he should recite it according to the recitation of Ibn Umm Abd.

Hazrat Shaqiq (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Indeed, the fortunate companions of Muhammad (peace be upon him) know that Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) will be the closest to Allah in rank on the Day of Judgment.

Hazrat Malik bin Harith (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Abu Khalid (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I came to Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) with a delegation, and he gave preference to the people of Shaam in awarding gifts over us. We asked him about this, so he said: O people of Kufa! Are you troubled by the fact that I have given preference to the people of Shaam over you in awarding gifts because of your sustenance? Indeed, I have preferred you over myself in comparison to Umm Abd.

Hazrat Zaid bin Wahb (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that one day Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was sitting when he saw Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) coming from the front and said: "The bearded one is filled with jurisprudence."

Hazrat Abu Ishaq (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Haritha bin Mudarrib (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The letter of Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was read out to us. In it was written: After praise and salutations, indeed I have sent Hazrat Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him) to you as your leader, and Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) as a teacher and minister. Both of them are among the noble companions of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). And in the matter of Ibn Umm Abd (may Allah be pleased with him), I have given preference to others over myself.

Hazrat Abu Al-Bakhtari (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that people asked Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): "Tell us about Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him)." He (may Allah have mercy on him) replied: "He learned the Qur'an and Hadith. And this was sufficient for him in terms of knowledge."

Hazrat Salih bin Hayan (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Ibn Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Regarding this verse of the Qur'an (__QUR_N__: "They said to those who were given knowledge, 'What did he say just now?'"), those people ask those who have been given knowledge, "What did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) just say?" By this, Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) is meant.

Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him) said that Alqamah (may Allah have mercy on him) stated: Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) resembled the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) in walking, guidance, and manner.

Hazrat A’mash (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Habbah bin Juwain (may Allah have mercy on him) said: We were sitting with Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) when we mentioned some things about Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him), and people began to praise him and said: O Commander of the Faithful! We have not seen anyone who has better character than Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him), who teaches with more gentleness, who is more pious, and who has better gatherings. Upon this, Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I ask you by Allah, are you saying this sincerely from your hearts? The people said: Yes! He (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Allah! Indeed, I make You a witness that surely I also say the same as these people have said, that he is superior.

Hazrat Abu Ubaidah (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Hazrat Abu Musa (may Allah have mercy on him) stated: The gatherings in which I used to sit with Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) were very firm in terms of practicing the Sunnah.
