And in summer, he would go out in a warm cloak and heavy clothes! So people began to say to Hazrat Abdur Rahman: If you (may Allah have mercy on him) ask your father, he will tell you, because he converses with him at night. So I asked my father: People see something in the Commander of the Faithful that they find strange? He asked: What is that? I said: In intense heat, you (may Allah be pleased with him) go out in a warm cloak and heavy clothes, and you do not care about it. And in severe cold, you (may Allah be pleased with him) go out in two thin garments and small sheets, and you do not care about it at all, nor do you protect yourself from the cold. Have you (may Allah have mercy on him) heard anything from him about this? Because people have told me to ask you to inquire from Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) when you speak to him at night about this matter. So when at night he conversed with Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: O Commander of the Faithful, people have observed something about you. And in severe cold, you (may Allah be pleased with him) go out in two thin garments and sheets, and you do not care about it, nor do you try to protect yourself from the cold! Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Abu Laila, were you not with us at the Battle of Khaybar? I said: Why not! By Allah, I was with you. Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Hazrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), and he went with the people, but he returned defeated. Then he sent Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), but he too returned defeated. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Surely, I will give the flag to a man who loves Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), and Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) love him. Allah will grant him victory. He is not one who turns his back and flees. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a messenger to call me. I presented myself, and I was suffering from an eye ailment and could not see anything. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) put his saliva in my eye, then prayed: O Allah! Then Hazrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! Am I that person? Then a young man stood up and said to him: I ask you by Allah, did you hear the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say this: "Whoever's friend I am, Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, is also his friend. O Allah! Befriend whoever befriends Ali, and be the enemy of whoever is hostile to him?" He (Abu Hurairah) replied: Yes! Then the young man said: I disassociate myself from you. I bear witness that indeed you have shown enmity to the one who befriends him, and you have befriended the one who is hostile to him. The narrator says: Then the people pelted that young man with pebbles.

Indeed, there was a man among you who was martyred at night, or he said: who passed away today. Those before him did not surpass him in knowledge, nor will those after him attain his knowledge. Whenever the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent him in any army, Hazrat Jibreel (peace be upon him) would be on his right side and Hazrat Mikaeel (peace be upon him) on his left side. Thus, that person would not return until Allah Almighty granted him victory.

Surely, it is enough for you that you say this: He is the cousin of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and his son-in-law. He was present at the occasion of Bay'at al-Ridwan and participated in the Battle of Badr.

Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) gave him the flag. Thus, on that very day, Allah granted him victory.

Suddenly, Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) appeared from the front, covered in dust and in a disheveled state, with nearly a sa’ (a measure) of dates on his shoulder, which he had earned through labor. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Welcome to the one who carries the burden and to the burden he carries." Then he (peace be upon him) seated him near himself and brushed the dust from his head, then said: "Welcome, O Abu Turab!" Then he brought the dates close, until everyone ate to their fill. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave his daughter to him in marriage, from whom his progeny continued, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered all doors to be closed except his door. The narrator says: So I brought him while I was walking ahead to show him the way because he was suffering from an eye ailment. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away while his soul was taken in those hands, and he (Ali) wiped his hand over the face of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and he (the Prophet) passed away. It was asked: Where will you bury the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)? So Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: There is no piece of land more beloved to Allah than the part in which this Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away. Therefore, we buried him (peace and blessings be upon him) at that very place.
