Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Sufyan narrates from his father that he says: I heard Ibrahim Taimi saying that I was compelled to attend this gathering because I saw in a dream that I was distributing "Raihan" flowers among people. I mentioned this dream to Ibrahim Nakha'i, so he said: The appearance of Raihan is very beautiful, but its taste is bitter.

It is narrated from Hazrat Mujahid that he says the meaning of { وَعَلَّمْتَنِی مِنْ تَأْوِیلِ الأَحَادِیثِ } is the interpretation of dreams.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Shaddad (may Allah be pleased with him) that he heard some people describing a dream while they were praying. When he finished the prayer, he asked them about this dream, but they concealed it. He said: Beware, the interpretation of the dream of Yusuf (peace be upon him) became manifest after forty years.

It is narrated from Ayyub, may Allah have mercy on him, that a man asked Muhammad bin Sirin, "I saw in a dream that I was eating a sweet called 'khabees' during prayer." He replied, "Khabees is lawful, but eating during prayer is not lawful for you." He then asked him, "Do you kiss your wife while fasting?" He said, "Yes!" He replied, "Do not do so."

Hazrat Abu Uthman narrates from Hazrat Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) that there was a gap of forty years between the dream of Hazrat Yusuf (peace be upon him) and its interpretation.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Aun narrates from Ibrahim that when the pious predecessors saw something undesirable in a dream, they would supplicate: I seek refuge with the One in whose protection are Allah’s angels and His messengers, and from the evil of the dream that I have seen, and from anything in this world or the Hereafter that may harm me in a way I dislike.

It is narrated from Bukair bin Abi Sumait, may Allah have mercy on him, that he said: I heard Muhammad bin Sirin, may Allah have mercy on him, saying this when he was asked about a man who saw in a dream that he had a sword which he was drawing out of its sheath. He said: "It is a male child." The man said: "Then the sword broke." He said: "That child will die." The narrator says that Muhammad bin Sirin, may Allah have mercy on him, was asked about the interpretation of seeing a stone in a dream, so he said: "It is hard-heartedness." And he was asked about the interpretation of seeing wood in a dream, so he said: "It is hypocrisy."

Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him) said that Muhammad bin Sirin (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked about a man who saw a light in the middle of the night. He replied: If this were something good, then the companions of Muhammad ﷺ would surely have seen it.

Hazrat Humaid bin Hilal narrates from Sila bin Ashyam that he said: I saw in a dream that I was among a group, and behind me stood a man with a drawn sword. Whenever he approached any one of us, he would behead him, and the head would fall. Then the slain person would sit up and become whole again as before. He says: I began to wait, wondering when he would come to me and what he would do with me. So he came to me and struck my head, and my head fell off. It is as if I am still seeing my head; I picked up my head and was dusting off the dirt from my lips. Then I picked up my head and placed it back in its place and became whole again as before.

It is narrated from Hazrat Humaid bin Hilal that he said: I saw Hazrat Rifa’ah in a dream after he was killed, that he was riding a swift she-camel and I was riding a slow, small-stepping camel and was following behind him. He turned his she-camel towards me, so I said to myself that now I can make my voice heard to him. Then he made his she-camel move on and I kept following behind him. He says: I interpreted my dream to mean that I would follow the path of Abu Rifa’ah and would strive hard in working after him.

It is narrated from Hazrat Thabit that Abu Thamir saw in a dream that destruction is for those women who make their bodies fat, due to weakness in the great tasks of the Day of Judgment.
