Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): Which deed is it that saves a servant from Hell? He (peace be upon him) replied: To have faith in Allah. He (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I asked: O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! Is there any deed along with faith? He (peace be upon him) replied: That you give out of the sustenance which Allah has given you. Or he (peace be upon him) said: That he gives out of the sustenance which Allah has given him.

Hazrat Umm Muhammad, may Allah have mercy on her, narrates that a man asked Hazrat Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her: "What is the sign of faith?" She, may Allah be pleased with her, replied: "Shall I explain in detail or briefly?" He said: "No, rather state it concisely." So she, may Allah be pleased with her, said: "Whoever is pleased with his good deed and troubled by his bad deed, then he is a believer."

Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A believer is not one who taunts and curses others, nor is he indecent or foul-mouthed.

Hazrat Mus'ab bin Sa'd (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A believer can become accustomed to everything except dishonesty and lying.

Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Yazid (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A believer can adopt all habits except dishonesty and lying.

Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A believer can adopt all habits except dishonesty and lying.

Hazrat Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: In the last era, there will be so many tribulations as if they are pieces of a dark night. A person will begin the morning as a believer and reach the evening as a disbeliever. And he will reach the evening as a believer and begin the morning as a disbeliever.

Hazrat Ata bin Yasar (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Muawiyah bin Al-Hakam Al-Sulami (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I had a slave girl who used to graze my sheep at the place of Uhud and Jawaniyah. One day I went to her and suddenly a wolf took away one of the sheep from the flock. He (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I am a man from among the sons of Adam, I felt regret as they feel regret. But I slapped her face hard. Then I presented myself before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and I felt very bad about it. I said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Should I free her? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Bring her to me. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked her: Where is Allah? She said: In the sky. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Who am I? She said: You are the Messenger of Allah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Free her, for indeed she is a believer.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that Hazrat Hakam (may Allah have mercy on him) has reported in a marfu’ form that a man came to the service of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: My mother owed a believing slave woman, and I have a non-Arab, black slave woman. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Bring her to me. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Do you testify that there is no deity except Allah, and that I am the Messenger of Allah? She said: Yes! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Set her free.
