Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Islam is the name of outward submission, and faith is in the heart. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) pointed towards his chest with his hand and said: Taqwa is here, taqwa is here.

Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The person who has no trustworthiness has no faith either.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) bin Hind al-Jamali (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The beginning of faith is a white spot in the heart. As faith increases, the whiteness also increases, until the entire heart of the believer becomes white with the light of faith. And the beginning of hypocrisy is a black spot in the heart. As hypocrisy increases, the blackness also increases, until the entire heart becomes black with the darkness of hypocrisy. And by the One in Whose hand is my soul, if you were to cut open the heart of a believer, you would surely find it white, and if you were to cut open the heart of a hypocrite, you would surely find it black.

Hazrat Tariq bin Shihab (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Indeed, when a person commits a sin, a black dot appears in his heart. Then when he commits the sin again, another dot appears, until his heart becomes like a gray-colored goat.

Hazrat Hisham (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that his father, Hazrat Urwah (may Allah have mercy on him), said: Not fulfilling trustworthiness decreases nothing from a person except faith.

Hazrat Amr (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Ubaid bin Umair (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Faith is the name of being fearful.

Hazrat Nafi’ bin Jubair (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Hazrat Bishr bin Suhaim Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) on the day of sacrifice to announce among the people: No one will enter Paradise except the person whose soul is that of a believer.

Hazrat Hisham bin Urwah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that his father, Hazrat Urwah (may Allah be pleased with him), said: Never let anyone’s praying or fasting deceive you, whoever wishes may pray and whoever wishes may fast, but the one who does not have trustworthiness has no share in religion.

Hazrat Umair bin Habib bin Khumasha, may Allah have mercy on him, said: Faith increases and decreases. He was asked: What is the increase and decrease of faith? He, may Allah have mercy on him, replied: When we remember it and fear that Being, then this is the increase of faith, and when we become heedless of it, forget it, and neglect it, then this is its decrease.

Hazrat Nafi' (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to supplicate as follows: O Allah! Do not take away faith from me as You have granted it to me.

Hazrat Ghalib bin Bakr says that if I am asked about the most virtuous person in the mosque, "Do you testify that he is a believer with perfect faith and free from hypocrisy?" then I will not testify, and if I do testify, that testimony would be a testimony that he is in Paradise. If I am asked about the worst person and people say, "Do you testify that he is a complete hypocrite, devoid of faith?" then I will not testify, because if I do testify, that testimony would be that he is in Hell.

Hazrat Usman bin Abi Safiyyah Al-Ansari, may Allah have mercy on him, narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, said to one of his sons: Shall I not get you married? For there is no servant who commits adultery except that Allah takes away from him the light of faith.

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When an adulterer commits adultery, his faith does not remain. And when a thief commits theft, his faith also does not remain.
