When Should Children Be Taught the Qur'an?
Hadith 32284
٣٢٢٨٤ - حدثنا سفيان بن عيينة عن عبد الكريم عن عمرو بن شعيب (١) قال: كان الغلام إذا أفصح من بني عبد المطلب علمه النبي ﷺ هذه الآية سبعًا: ﴿وَقُلِ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي لَمْ يَتَّخِذْ وَلَدًا وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ شَرِيكٌ فِي الْمُلْكِ وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ وَلِيٌّ مِنَ الذُّلِّ وَكَبِّرْهُ تَكْبِيرًا﴾ (٢) [الإسراء: ١١١].
Hazrat Abdul Kareem narrates that Hazrat Amr bin Shu'aib said: When a child from the tribe of Banu Abdul Muttalib began to speak clearly, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would teach that child this verse seven times: All praise is due to Allah, Who has never taken a son, nor does He have any partner in the kingdom, nor does He have any helper out of weakness, and proclaim His greatness with the utmost greatness.
Hadith 32285
٣٢٢٨٥ - [حدثنا عمر بن سعد أبو داود عن سفيان عن الحسن بن عمرو جاء بي أبي إلى سعيد بن جبير وأنا صغير، فقال: (علم) (١) هذا القرآن] (٢).
Hazrat Sufyan narrates that Hazrat Hasan bin Amr said: My father took me to Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair while I was very young, so he said; Will you teach him the Qur'an?!
Hadith 32286
٣٢٢٨٦ - حدثنا عمر بن سعد (أبو داود) (١) عن سفيان عن الحسن بن عمرو (٢) عن فضيل عن إبراهيم قال: كانوا يكرهون أن يعلموا (أولادهم) (٣) القرآن حتى يعقلوا.
Hazrat Fudayl says that Ibrahim stated: The Companions disliked teaching the Qur'an to their children before they became intelligent.
