Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by Hazrat Bilal while he was reciting some part from one surah of the Qur'an and some part from another surah. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Bilal! I passed by you while you were reciting this surah and that surah together! Hazrat Bilal replied: May my father be sacrificed for you, O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! I wished to combine a pure part with another pure part. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Recite the surah in this manner.

Hazrat Abu Ishaq narrates that Hazrat Mu'adh was reciting parts of one surah combined with parts of another surah, so he was spoken to about this. He replied: Why do you think about me that I am mixing the Qur'an with something other than the Qur'an?!

Hazrat Zaid bin Yathi’ narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) passed by Hazrat Bilal, then the narrator reported the narration similar to the hadith of Hazrat Hatim.

Ibn Aun narrates that Muhammad was asked about a person who recites the Qur'an by combining verses from here and there. He replied: He should refrain from doing so; he will not be greatly sinful as long as he does not know.

Hazrat Ash'ath narrates that Hasan disliked that two surahs be recited together, until the end of the first one was completed, then the second one should be recited.

Hazrat Waleed bin Jamee’ narrates that a man told me that Hazrat Khalid bin Waleed led the people in prayer at the place of Heerah and recited from various Surahs. After completing the prayer, he turned towards us and said: Jihad has kept us occupied from learning the Qur’an.
