Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Shaqiq bin Salamah narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "What will be your condition when a night comes upon the Qur'an such that the Qur'an will be taken away?" The narrator asked: "O Abdur Rahman! How will this be possible when the Qur'an is preserved in the hearts of men?" He replied: "Allah will send a pure wind, and thus all will pass away."

Hazrat Shaddad bin Miq’al narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Verily, this Qur’an which is preserved in your hearts, soon it will be taken away from you. The narrator says: I asked, “How will it be taken away from us when we have preserved it in our hearts and recorded it in our scriptures?” He replied: Then a night will pass over it such that whatever is preserved in the hearts will be taken away and whatever is recorded in the manuscripts will be erased. And people will wake up in the morning in such a state that they will be empty of it. Then he recited this verse: “And if We willed, We could surely take away that which We have revealed to you.”
