Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Shu'ayb narrates that Hazrat Abu Al-'Aliyah used to teach people the Qur'an: So when he intended to correct someone's mistake, he would not say: "It is not like this or that." Rather, he would say: "Recite the verse like this." So I mentioned this to Ibrahim, and he said: "I think your companion has heard this hadith: Whoever denies a single letter of the Qur'an has indeed denied the entire Qur'an."

Hazrat Alqamah narrates that I stopped Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) while he was reciting the Qur'an, so he said: "How is it according to your opinion?" I said: "You recited as it is present in the Qur'an except for one letter. You recited it like this and like that."

Hazrat A'mash says that I recited the Qur'an to Ibrahim. When I passed by a certain word, he stopped me at it. He did not say to me that it is not like this or like that. Rather, he said: Hazrat Alqamah used to recite this verse like this and like that.

Hazrat A’mash narrates that Ibrahim said to me: Indeed, Ibrahim al-Taymi wishes that you teach him the recitation of Hazrat Abdullah. I said: I do not have the strength. He said: Why not, for indeed this is his intention. A’mash says: When I saw that this is what he wanted, I said: Fine, it will be in your presence. So we discussed the letters of Hazrat Abdullah. Then he said: That is sufficient for me. I said: Why do you dislike teaching in this way? He said: I dislike that I say about any verse that it is like this, but it is not so, or that I say: there is a waw in it, and there is no waw in it.

Ibrahim narrates that a man asked Hazrat Ibn Mas’ud about the pronunciation of this verse: “And those who believed and their offspring followed them in faith.” So that man began to say “dhurriyyatahum.” Then he kept repeating this word again and again. And you did not say: that it is not like this.

Hazrat A'mash says that Ibrahim said: I dislike to testify regarding the Qur'an, lest I say: "It is like this," while it is not so.
