Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The example of the Qur'an is like a camel whose foreleg is tied to its neck. If its owner ties its foreleg to its neck, it will remain tethered, and if he leaves it untethered, it will go away.

Hazrat Uqbah bin Amir narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Learn the Qur'an and take care of it. By the One in Whose hand is my soul, the Qur'an slips away from the hearts faster than a camel does from its ropes.

Hazrat Abu Musa narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Take care of the Qur'an. By the One in Whose hand is my soul, the Qur'an slips away from the hearts of men faster than a camel from its ropes.

Hazrat Shaqiq narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Take care of these manuscripts. And sometimes he would say: Take care of the Qur'an. Because it slips away from the hearts faster than a camel slips away from its ropes.

Hazrat Abu Wa'il narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas'ud said: Take care of this Qur'an, for it slips away more quickly from the hearts than a camel does from its ropes. And he said that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Woe to the one who says, "I have forgotten such-and-such verse." He did not forget it, rather it was made to be forgotten by him.
