Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Imran bin Abdullah bin Talha narrates: A man was reciting the Holy Qur'an in a humming voice in Masjid Nabawi (peace and blessings be upon him) during Ramadan. So Hazrat Qasim objected to this and said: Allah has stated: "Although it is a mighty Book. Falsehood cannot approach it from before it or from behind it; it is sent down by the One Who is All-Wise, Worthy of Praise."

Hazrat A'mash narrates that a person recited the Qur'an in a singing tone in the presence of Hazrat Anas. So Hazrat Anas disliked it.

Hazrat Ubaidullah bin Abi Bakr narrates that Hazrat Ziyad al-Namiri came into the presence of Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) along with several reciters. They were told: Recite. So they raised their voices, and they were people of loud voices. Then Hazrat Anas removed the cloth from his face. And there was a black-colored cloth on his face. Then he said: What is this? The Companions did not do like this. And when he disliked something, he would remove the cloth from his face.

Hazrat Laith states that Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Al-Aswad said: One of them used to recite verses aloud in the middle of the night.
