Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Bara bin Azib narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Adorn the Qur'an with your voices.

Hazrat Abu Hurairah narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, entered the mosque and heard the voice of a man reciting the Qur'an. He asked: Who is this person? It was informed: Hazrat Abdullah bin Qais. So he said: Indeed, this person has been given a share from among the flutes of the family of Dawood.

Hazrat Buraidah narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Indeed, the tribe of Ash‘ariyyin has been given a portion from among the flutes of the family of Dawud.

Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Ka'b bin Malik narrates that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) heard Hazrat Abu Musa Ash'ari reciting the Qur'an, so he said to him: Indeed, your brother has been given a portion from the Psalms of the family of David.

The aforementioned statement of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) has also been narrated with this chain of transmission from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her).

Ibrahim narrates that Hazrat Umar said: Beautify the Qur'an with your voices.

Hazrat Sa'd narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever does not recite the Qur'an in a pleasant tone is not from among us.

Hazrat Amr narrates that Hazrat Abu Salamah said: Allah does not turn towards anyone as much as He attentively listens to the voice of that servant who recites the Divine Word with a melodious tone.

Hazrat Tawus states that it was said that among the people, those who recite the Qur'an with a beautiful voice are the ones who fear Allah the most.

Hazrat Abdul Kareem narrates that Hazrat Taawoos was asked: Who among the people is the best reciter of the Qur'an? He replied: The one whom you see fearing Allah while reciting the Qur'an. And he said: Hazrat Talq is among them.

Hazrat Masruq narrates that we were with Hazrat Abu Musa. When night fell, we took shelter in a deserted garden. He says: He stood in prayer during the night and recited (the Qur'an) very beautifully.

Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Hazrat Abu Musa used to recite the Qur'an at night, and the noble wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would listen with great interest. When he was informed of this, he said: If I had known, I would have recited in an even more beautiful voice, or he said: I would have recited with even greater enthusiasm.
