Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Qais bin Sakan narrates that Hazrat Abdullah said: Learn the Qur'an. Because for reciting one letter of the Qur'an, ten good deeds are written and ten sins are erased. Further, I do not say that "Alif Lam Meem" is one letter, but I say this: for "Alif" there are ten good deeds, for "Lam" there are ten good deeds, and for "Meem" there are ten good deeds.

Hazrat Awf bin Malik Al-Ashja'i narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever recites a single letter from the Book of Allah, one good deed is written for him. I do not say that "Alif Lam Meem" is one letter, but rather I say: Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter, and Meem is a letter.

Hazrat Abu Al-Ahwas narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Learn the Qur'an and recite it. Allah grants you ten rewards for every letter you recite. And I do not say that "Alif Lam Meem" is one letter, but rather I say that Alif is one letter, Lam is one letter, and Meem is one letter.

Hazrat Alqamah or Hazrat Aswad narrates that Hazrat Abdullah said: Whoever recites the Qur'an for the pleasure of Allah, for every letter he receives ten rewards, and ten sins are forgiven.
