Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Humaid says that Hazrat Saeed bin Abu Al-Hasan used to supplicate as follows: O Allah! Place the sign of faith upon us, and clothe us with the garment of piety.

Hazrat Hammad bin Salamah narrates that Hazrat Thabit said: We were in a place where animals could not cross. So I stood up while reciting these verses! Translation: The Forgiver of sin, the Acceptor of repentance, the Severe in punishment. He says: Then an elder passed by, riding a mule with hair on its forehead, and said: Say like this, O Forgiver of sins, forgive my sin; O Acceptor of repentance, accept my repentance; O Severe in punishment, pardon me from my punishment; O Possessor of length, prolong goodness for me. He says: I recited these words. Then when I looked, I did not see anyone there.

Hazrat Thabit narrates that Hazrat Ubaidullah bin Ubaid said: Verily, Hazrat Jibreel is appointed to fulfill needs. So when a believer asks his Lord, he (Jibreel) says: Hold back, hold back—liking his supplication so that he asks more. And when a disbeliever asks, he says: Give it to him, give it to him—disliking his supplication.

Hazrat Thabit narrates that Hazrat Anas used to say: Indeed, I have left behind such old women who used to supplicate to Allah abundantly that Allah may admit them to the Pond of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).
