Hadith 31761
٣١٧٦١ - حدثنا زيد بن حباب قال: حدثنا معاوية بن صالح قال: حدثني حبيب ابن عبيد الكلاعي عن جبير بن نفير الحضرمي عن عوف بن مالك الأشجعي قال: سمعت رسول اللَّه ﷺ يقول على الميت: "اللهم اغفر له، وارحمه، وعافه، واعف عنه، وأكرم نزله، وأوسع مدخله، واغسله بالماء والثلج والبرد، ونقه من الخطايا كما تنقي الثوب الأبيض من الدنس، اللهم أبدله دارًا خيرًا من داره، وزوجًا خيرًا من زوجه، وأهلًا خيرًا من أهله، وأدخله الجنة، ونجه من النار"، أو قال: "قه عذاب (النار) (١) "، حتى تمنيت أن أكون أنا هو (٢).
Hazrat Awf bin Malik al-Ashja'i narrates that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicating over a deceased person in this way: O Allah! Forgive him, and have mercy on him, and grant him well-being, and pardon him. And honor Your guest, and expand his place of entry, and wash him with water, snow, and cold water. And cleanse him of sins as a white garment is cleansed of dirt. O Allah! Grant him a home better than his home, and a wife better than his wife, and a family better than his family. And admit him into Paradise, and save him from Hell, or he said: and protect him from the punishment of Hell. To the extent that I began to wish that I were that deceased.
Hadith 31762
٣١٧٦٢ - حدثنا أبو أسامة قال: (حدثنا) (١) هشام الدستوائي عن يحيى بن ⦗٣٣٩⦘ أبي كثير عن (٢) إبراهيم الأنصاري عن أبيه أنه سمع رسول اللَّه ﷺ (يقول) (٣): في الصلاة على الميت: "اللهم اغفر لحينا وميتنا، وشاهدنا وغائبنا، وذكرنا وأنثانا وصغيرنا وكبيرنا" (٤).
Ibrahim Ansari narrates that I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicating in the funeral prayer for a deceased person as follows: O Allah! Forgive all our living and all our deceased, and all those present among us and all those absent, and all our males and all our females, and all our young and all our elderly.
Hadith 31763
٣١٧٦٣ - حدثنا يزيد بن هارون عن شعبة عن (الجلاس) (١) عن عثمان بن (شماس) (٢) قال: كنا عند أبي هريرة فمر به مروان فقال: بعض حديثك عن رسول اللَّه ﷺ، ثم مضى ثم رجع (فقلنا) (٣) الآن يقع به، فقال: كيف (سمعت) (٤) رسول اللَّه ﷺ يصلي على الجنازة؟ قال: سمعته يقول (٥): "أنت (هديتها) (٦) للإسلام وأنت قبضت روحها، تعلم سرها وعلانيتها، (جئنا) (٧) شفعاء فاغفر لها" (٨).
Hazrat Usman bin Shamas narrates that we were with Hazrat Abu Hurairah when Marwan passed by him. He said to him: "Narrate to us a hadith of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him." Then he went away, and after a short while he returned. So we said: "Now he will sit with him." Then he said: "Did you hear the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, recite any supplication over the funeral prayer?" He replied: "I heard him supplicate thus: 'You alone guided him to Islam, and You alone took his soul. You know his hidden and open matters. We have come to You as intercessors for him, so forgive him.'"
Hadith 31764
٣١٧٦٤ - حدثنا وكيع عن ابن أبي ليلى عن رجل من أهل مكة عن أبي سلمة قال: كان رسول اللَّه ﷺ يقول في الصلاة على الجنازة: "اللهم اغفر لحينا وميتنا وذكرنا وأنثانا وشاهدنا وغائبنا وصغيرنا وكبيرنا، اللهم من أحييته منا فأحيه على (الإيمان) (١) ومن توفيته منا فتوفه على (الإسلام) (٢) " (٣).
Hazrat Abu Salamah narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to recite this supplication in the funeral prayer: O Allah! Forgive our every living one and our every deceased one, and our every male and our every female, and our every present one and our every absent one, and our every young one and our every old one. O Allah! Whomever You keep alive from among us, keep him alive upon faith; and whomever You cause to die from among us, cause him to die upon faith.
Hadith 31765
٣١٧٦٥ - حدثنا محمد بن فضيل عن حصين عن أبي مالك قال: كان أبو بكر إذا صلى على الميت قال: اللهم عبدك [(أسلم) (١) [الأهل] (٢) والمال] (٣) (والعشيرة) (٤) والذنب عظيم وأنت غفور رحيم (٥).
Hazrat Abu Malik narrates that when Hazrat Abu Bakr led the funeral prayer for a deceased person, he would say: O Allah! This is Your servant; his family, wealth, and relatives have entrusted him to You, and he has many sins, and You are the Forgiving, the Merciful.
Hadith 31766
٣١٧٦٦ - حدثنا أبو الأحوص عن طارق عن سعيد بن المسيب قال: كان عمر ⦗٣٤١⦘ يقول في الصلاة (١) إن كان أمسى قال: اللهم أمسى عبدك، وإن كان صباحا قال: اللهم أصبح عبدك قد تخلى من الدنيا وتركها لأهلها، واستغنيت عنه وافتقر إليك، كان يشهد أن لا إله إلا أنت وأن محمدا عبدك ورسولك، فاغفر (له) (٢) (ذنبه) (٣) (٤).
Hazrat Saeed bin Al-Musayyib narrates that when evening came, Hazrat Umar would supplicate in the funeral prayer as follows: O Allah! Your servant has reached the evening. And if it was morning, he would supplicate: O Allah! Your servant has reached the morning. Indeed, he has left the world, and he has left the world for the people of the world, and You are independent of him and he is in need of You. He used to bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except You, and indeed Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is Your servant and Your Messenger. So forgive his sins.
Hadith 31767
٣١٧٦٧ - حدثنا أبو الأحوص عن منصور عن عبد اللَّه (بن) (١) عبد الرحمن بن أبزى قال: كان علي يقول في الصلاة على الميت: اللهم اغفر لأحيائنا وأمواتنا، وألف بين قلوبنا، وأصلح ذات بيننا، واجعل قلوبنا على قلوب خيارنا، اللهم اغفر له، (اللهم ارحمه) (٢)، اللهم ارجعه إلى خير (مما) (٣) كان فيه، اللهم عفوك (٤).
Hazrat Abdullah bin Abdur Rahman bin Abzi narrates that Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) used to recite this supplication in the funeral prayer: O Allah! Forgive our living and our dead. And create unity among our hearts. And set right the affairs between us. And make our hearts like the hearts of our best people. O Allah! Forgive him. O Allah! Have mercy on him. O Allah! Return him to the goodness in which he was before. O Allah! We seek Your forgiveness.
Hadith 31768
٣١٧٦٨ - حدثنا عبد الوهاب الثقفي عن خالد قال: كنت في جنازة (غنيم) (١) فحدثني رجل (عنه) (٢) أنه قال: سمعت أبا موسى صلى على ميت فكبر فقال: اللهم اغفر له كما استغفرك وأعطه ما سألك وزده من فضلك (٣).
Hazrat Khalid narrates that I was present at the funeral of Hazrat Ghaneem when a person related to me regarding him that Hazrat Ghaneem said: I heard Hazrat Abu Musa saying the takbeer for the funeral prayer over a deceased, then he supplicated as follows: O Allah! Forgive him as he sought forgiveness from You, and grant him that which he asked of You, and increase for him from Your bounty.
Hadith 31769
٣١٧٦٩ - حدثنا عبدة بن سليمان عن محمد بن عمرو عن أبي سلمة قال: قال عبد اللَّه بن سلام: الصلاة على الجنازة أن تقول: اللهم اغفر لحينا وميتنا، وصغيرنا وكبيرنا، وذكرنا وأنثانا، وشاهدنا وغائبنا، اللهم من توفيته منا فتوفه على الإيمان، ومن (أبقيته) (١) منا فأبقه على الإسلام (٢).
Hazrat Abu Salamah narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Salam said: In the funeral prayer, recite this supplication: O Allah! Forgive all our living and all our deceased, and all our young and all our elders, and all our men and all our women, and all our present and all our absent. O Allah! Whomever You cause to die from among us, cause him to die in faith. And whomever You keep alive from among us, keep him alive in Islam.
Hadith 31770
٣١٧٧٠ - حدثنا غندر عن شعبة عن زيد العمي عن أبي الصديق الناجي قال: (سألت) (١) أبا سعيد عن الصلاة على الجنازة، (فقال) (٢): كنا نقول: اللهم (أنت) (٣) ربنا وربه خلقته ورزقته (٤) أحييته (وكفيته) (٥) فاغفر لنا وله، ولا تحرمنا أجره ولا تضلنا بعده (٦).
Hazrat Abu Sadiq Al-Naji narrates that I asked Hazrat Abu Saeed about the funeral prayer, so he said: We used to supplicate like this: O Allah! You are our Lord and his Lord as well, You created him and You provided him sustenance, and You gave him life and You sufficed him, so forgive us and him. And do not deprive us of its reward and do not misguide us after him.
Hadith 31771
٣١٧٧١ - حدثنا (١) عفان بن مسلم قال: حدثنا أبو (عوانة) (٢) قال: حدثنا خالد عن عبد اللَّه بن الحارث عن ابن (عمرو) (٣) بن غيلان عن أبي الدرداء أنه كان يقول في الصلاة على الميت: اللهم اغفر (لأحيائنا) (٤) وأمواتنا المسلمين، اللهم اغفر ⦗٣٤٣⦘ للمؤمنين والمؤمنات والمسلمين والمسلمات وأصلح ذات بينهم، (وألف) (٥) بين قلوبهم، واجعل قلوبهم على قلوب (أخيارهم) (٦)، اللهم اغفر لفلان بن فلان ذنبه، وألحقه بنبيه محمد ﷺ، اللهم ارفع درجته في (المهتدين) (٧)، واخلفه في عقبه في الغابرين، واجعل كتابه في عليين، واغفر لنا وله يا رب العالمين، اللهم لا تحرمنا أجره ولا (تضلنا) (٨) بعده (٩).
Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) and Ibn Ghailan narrate that Hazrat Abu Darda used to recite this supplication in the funeral prayer: O Allah! Forgive our living and deceased Muslims. O Allah! Grant forgiveness to the believing men and believing women, and also to the Muslim men and Muslim women, and set right their mutual affairs, and make their hearts like the hearts of their best people. O Allah! Forgive the sins of so-and-so son of so-and-so and unite him with Your Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). O Allah! Raise his rank among the rightly guided, and be the successor for him among those who remain behind, and place his record of deeds in Illiyin. Lord of all the worlds, forgive us and him. O Allah! Do not deprive us of his reward, and do not let us go astray after him.
Hadith 31772
٣١٧٧٢ - حدثنا أبو أسامة عن عبيد اللَّه بن عمر عن نافع عن ابن عمر أنه كان يقول في الجنازة إذا صلى عليه: اللهم بارك فيه وصل عليه واغفر له وأورده حوض رسولك ﷺ، قال في قيام كبير وكلام كثير (لم) (١) أفهم منه غير هذا (٢).
Hazrat Nafi’ narrates that whenever Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) offered the funeral prayer for someone, he would supplicate as follows: O Allah! Grant blessing in him and send mercy upon him. And forgive him. And admit him to the Hawd al-Kawthar of Your Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). The narrator says, due to the lengthy standing and much speech, I could not understand anything beyond this.
Hadith 31773
٣١٧٧٣ - حدثنا إسحاق بن سليمان عن (حريز) (١) عن عبد الرحمن (بن) (٢) أبي عوف (٣) عن ابن (لحي) (٤) الهوزني أنه شهد جنازة شرحبيل بن (السمط) (٥) فقدم عليها حبيب بن مسلمة الفهري فأقبل علينا كالمشرف علينا من طوله فقال: اجتهدوا ⦗٣٤٤⦘ لأخيكم في الدعاء وليكن مما تدعون له: اللهم اغفر لهذه النفس (الحنيفية) (٦) واجعلها (في) (٧) الذين تابوا واتبعوا سبيلك، وقها عذاب الجحيم واستنصروا (اللَّه) (٨) على عدوكم (٩).
Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Abi Auf narrates that Hazrat Abu Lahi al-Hawzani attended the funeral of Shurahbil bin Simt. At the funeral, Habib bin Muslimah Fahri was made to lead, then he turned towards us as if coming from a distance, and he said: Strive in supplication for your brother. And become those who pray for him in this way: O Allah! Forgive this pure Muslim. And make him among those who repented and followed Your path. And save him from the punishment of Hell. And you people seek help against your enemy.
