Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Saad narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The best remembrance is that which is done quietly.

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the reward of silent remembrance, which the angels cannot record, is increased seventy times compared to other forms of remembrance.

Hazrat Abu Musa narrates that we were on a journey with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The people were proclaiming takbeer in loud voices. So the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Be gentle with yourselves. You are not calling upon one who is deaf or absent. Rather, you are calling upon One who is All-Hearing and Near, and He is with you.

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When a person performs prayer, he is whispering to his Lord. Therefore, each of you should know what he is whispering to that Being. And none of you should raise his voice over others.

Hazrat Abu Majliz narrates that Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: O people! You are not calling upon one who is deaf or absent, that is, he was speaking regarding raising the voice in supplication.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Naseeb narrates that I prayed next to Hazrat Saeed bin Al-Musayyib. When I sat in the second rak'ah and my voice became loud while making supplication, he scolded me severely. When I finished the prayer, I asked him: What did you dislike about what I did? He replied: What do you think, is Allah not close to you?!

Hazrat Abu Hashim narrates that Hazrat Mujahid heard a man raising his voice during supplication, so he threw a pebble at him.

Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Hazrat Rabi’ and Hasan both disliked that a person’s supplication should be heard by his companion.

Hazrat Mubarak says that Hasan stated: The Companions used to strive greatly in supplication. And nothing could be heard except a whisper.
