Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Amr bin Murrah narrates that when the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) finished eating, he would make this supplication: All praise is for Allah who has bestowed favor upon us, thus He granted us guidance. And all praise is for Allah who satisfied us and quenched our thirst. And for every good blessing that He granted us.

Hazrat Abu Saeed narrates that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) finished eating, he would supplicate as follows: All praise is for Allah who fed us and gave us drink and made us Muslims.

Hazrat Harith bin Suwaid narrates that when Hazrat Salman finished eating, he would supplicate in this way: All praise is for Allah who sufficed us in our expenses and granted abundance in our sustenance.

Hazrat Ismail bin Abu Saeed narrates that when food was served, Hazrat Abu Saeed would say: All praise is for Allah who fed us and gave us drink, and made us Muslims.

Hazrat Ibn Aba’d or Ibn Ma’bad narrates that Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Do you know what is the right of food? The narrator says that I asked: What is the right of food? Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: You should say these words: I begin with the name of Allah. O Allah! Bless for us the sustenance You have provided us. Then he said: Do you know what is the gratitude for food? I asked: What is the gratitude for food? He said: That you say these words: All praise is for Allah who has fed us and given us drink.

Hazrat Dhakwan bin Abi Salih narrates that when food was presented before Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), she said: Give the food its due right, and its right is that after finishing, thank Allah.

Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Surely Allah is pleased with His servant who, when he eats a morsel, praises Allah for it, or when he drinks a sip, praises Allah for it.

Hazrat Atris bin Arqoob narrates that Hazrat Abdullah said: Whoever recites these words at the time of serving food: I begin with the name of Allah, which is the best of all names. Whatever is in the earth and whatever is in the heavens belongs to Allah. No illness can harm with His name. O Allah! Place blessing, well-being, and healing in this food. Then this food will not harm anyone.

Hazrat Hisham says that my father would not eat or drink anything, not even a drop of medicine, until he had recited these words: All praise is for Allah who guided us, fed us, gave us drink, and bestowed blessings upon us. Allah is the Greatest. O Allah! Your blessing has made us familiar with every good and protected us from every evil, so we have reached the morning and the evening with all goodness because of this blessing. We ask You for the completion of this blessing and for gratitude for it. There is no good except Your good, and there is no deity except You. O God of the righteous and Lord of all the worlds, all praise is for Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. There is no deity except Allah. Whatever Allah wills happens. There is no power to do good except with His help. O Allah! Bless the sustenance You have provided for us and save us from the punishment of Hell.

Hazrat Hilal narrates that when food was placed before Hazrat Urwah, he would recite these words: "You are free from all defects, how excellent are the blessings with which You have honored us. You are free from all defects, how excellent are the blessings You have granted us. O our Lord, the Lord and the Lord of our forefathers." Then he would recite the tasmiyah and place his hand (on the food).

Hazrat Tamim bin Salamah says that it has been narrated to me that when a person mentions the name of Allah at the beginning of the meal and praises Allah at the end of the meal, then he will not be questioned about the blessing of that food.
