Supplication When Seeing a Bad Dream
Hadith 31522
٣١٥٢٢ - حدثنا عبد اللَّه بن نمير عن يحيى بن سعيد عن أبي سلمة عن أبي قتادة قال: قال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "الرؤيا من اللَّه، والحلم من الشيطان، فإذا رأى أحدكم ما يكره فلينفث عن يساره (ثلاثًا) (١) وليتعوذ من شرها فإنها (لا) (٢) تضره" (٣).
Hazrat Abu Qatadah narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Good dreams are from Allah, and bad dreams are from Satan. So when any one of you sees a bad dream, he should spit three times to his left side and seek refuge from its evil. It will never harm him.
Hadith 31523
٣١٥٢٣ - حدثنا أحمد بن عبد اللَّه بن يونس عن ليث بن سعد عن أبي الزبير عن جابر قال: قال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "إذا رأى أحدكم الرؤيا يكرهها فليبصق عن يساره ثلاثًا، وليستعذ باللَّه من الشيطان ثلاثًا، ويتحول عن جنبه الذي كان عليه" (١).
Hazrat Jabir narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: When any one of you sees a dream that he dislikes, he should spit three times to his left and seek Allah’s protection from Satan three times, and he should change the side on which he was lying.
Hadith 31524
٣١٥٢٤ - حدثنا يزيد بن هارون أخبرنا ابن عون عن إبراهيم النخعي قال: كانوا إذا رأى أحدهم في منامه ما يكره قال: أعوذ بما عاذت به ملائكةُ اللَّهِ ورسولهُ من شر ما رأيت في منامي أن يصيبني منه شيء أكرهه في الدنيا والآخرة.
Ibrahim al-Nakha'i says that some of the Companions would supplicate as follows: I seek refuge with those words with which Allah's angels and His messengers sought refuge from the evil of that which I have seen in my sleep, that nothing of that affliction should reach me which I dislike in this world and the Hereafter.
