Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Sa’d narrates that a Bedouin came to the service of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Tell me a remembrance (dhikr) that I may keep reciting. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Say: There is no deity except Allah, He is alone, He has no partner, Allah is the Greatest, and all praise is for Allah, Allah is Pure, the Lord of all the worlds. The ability to abstain from sins and to do good deeds comes only from Allah, the Mighty, the Wise.” Hazrat Sa’d narrates that the Bedouin asked: This is for my Lord, and what is for me? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Say: O Allah! Forgive me, have mercy on me, guide me, and grant me sustenance.

Hazrat Abu Umamah narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came out, and it was as if we were wishing that he (peace and blessings be upon him) would supplicate for us. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Allah! Forgive us, have mercy on us, be pleased with us, accept from us, admit us into Paradise, grant us deliverance from the Fire, and set right all our affairs. Then we wished that he (peace and blessings be upon him) would supplicate further. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I have combined all your matters in this (supplication).

Hazrat Imran bin Husain narrates that Hazrat Husain, before accepting Islam, came to the service of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! What do you command me to recite? The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Recite this supplication, "O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the evil of my own self, and I ask You to make me steadfast in my right affairs." The narrator says: After this, Hazrat Husain accepted Islam. Then he again came to the service of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: I had asked you the same question the first time, and now I ask you again: What do you command me to recite? The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Recite this supplication: O Allah! Forgive me for those deeds which I did secretly, and those which I did openly, and those which I did by mistake, and those which I did deliberately, and those which I did out of ignorance, and those which I did knowingly.

Hazrat Buraidah narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to me: Shall I not teach you some words such that Allah, when He intends good for someone, teaches him these words and then never lets him forget them? The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Recite these words: O Allah! I am weak, so change my weakness into strength in Your pleasure, and take hold of my forelock towards goodness, and make Islam the ultimate limit of my pleasure. O Allah! I am weak, so make me strong, and I am humiliated, so grant me honor, and I am poor, so grant me sustenance.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Hazrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): "Teach me a supplication that I may recite in my prayers." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Recite this supplication: O Allah! I have wronged myself greatly, and none forgives sins except You, so forgive me with Your special forgiveness and have mercy on me. Surely, You are the Most Forgiving, Most Merciful."

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: Shall I not teach you a few words, that when you recite them, you will be forgiven, even though you are already forgiven? There is no deity except Allah, the Most Forbearing, the Most Generous. There is no deity except Allah, the Most High, the Most Great. Glorified is the Lord of the seven heavens and the Lord of the Noble Throne. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds.

Hazrat Mu'adh narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, passed by a man who was making this supplication: "O Allah! I ask You for patience." So the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "You have asked Allah for calamity, so ask Him for well-being and safety." And the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, passed by another man who was making this supplication: "O Allah! I ask You for complete blessing." So the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "O son of Adam! Do you know what complete blessing is?" That person said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! With this supplication, I hoped for the intention of goodness." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, complete blessing is to enter Paradise and be saved from Hell." And he passed by another man who was making this supplication: "O Possessor of Majesty, Honor, and Generosity!" So the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Your supplication will be accepted, so ask."

Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Recite "Ya Dhal-Jalali wal-Ikram" (O Possessor of Majesty and Honor) frequently.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Hasan narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Ja'far went to one of his sons who was ill, and he was called Salih. Then he said to him: Say these words: There is no deity except Allah, the Most Forbearing, the Most Generous. Glory be to Allah, the Lord of the Great Throne. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. O Allah! Forgive me. O Allah! Have mercy on me. O Allah! Pardon my sins. O Allah! Grant me forgiveness, surely You are the Most Forgiving, Most Merciful. Then Hazrat Abdullah bin Ja'far said: My uncle taught me these words, and the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) taught them to him.

Hazrat Shaddad bin Aus says: Remember what I am about to say to you. I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: When people begin to amass treasures of gold and silver, then you should amass treasure with these words: O Allah! I ask You for steadfastness in religion, for gratitude for Your blessings, and I ask You for the best worship of You, and I ask You for a sound heart and a truthful tongue, and I ask You for the good that You know, and I seek refuge in You from the evil that You know, and I seek Your forgiveness for the sin that You know. Surely, You are the Knower of the unseen.

Hazrat Muhammad bin Ka'b says that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to teach this supplication to his companions. He used to say: You should supplicate like this: O Allah! Forgive our sins, and pardon our slips, and conceal our faults.
