Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Jabir narrates that Hazrat Amir was asked about a man regarding whom people wanted to cut off his right hand, but he extended his left hand instead, so it was cut off. What is the ruling about this? He replied: The right hand will not be cut off.

Hazrat Yahya bin Abi Kathir states that Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) enforced this.

Hazrat Jabir narrates that it is reported from Hazrat Amir regarding a ruler to whom a thief was brought, so out of ignorance his left hand was cut off. He (Hazrat Amir) said: He should be released.

Hazrat Qasim bin Muhammad says that I and Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib gathered regarding the man about whom, when the order was given to cut off his right hand, if he presented his left hand before the barber and he cut off that hand, both of these gentlemen said: His hand will be wasted and retribution (qisas) will remain as it is.
