Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Jabir bin Zaid narrates that it is reported from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) regarding a man who gave his wife one divorce and then accused her; he said: The punishment of false accusation (hadd-e-qazf) will be imposed on him. It will not be as if he had not divorced her. And Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) said: He can perform li'an (mutual cursing) as long as he has the right to take her back.

Yunus narrates that Hasan Basri said: When a man gives his wife three divorces and then accuses her (of adultery), the punishment for false accusation (hadd-e-qazf) will be imposed on that man, unless she is pregnant. So if she is pregnant, then he will perform li'an (mutual cursing) with her.

Hazrat Mansur narrates that it is reported from Hazrat Hakam regarding a man who gave his wife three divorces while she was pregnant, then he also denied the child in her womb. He (Hakam) said: He will be flogged and the child will be attributed to him.

Hazrat Mughira narrates that Ibrahim said: When a man gives his wife three divorces and then denies his child while he no longer has the right to take her back, he will be flogged and the child will be attributed to him. And when he denies his child while he still has the right to take her back, he will perform li'an (mutual cursing) and the child will be disassociated from him, even if he never acknowledged the child.

Hazrat Shaibani states that it is narrated from Hazrat Sha’bi regarding a man who gave his wife an irrevocable divorce. Then the woman claimed to be pregnant, but the man denied the child. He (Sha’bi) said: He will perform li’an with her.

Hazrat Mughira narrates that Hazrat Shabi was asked about a man who had given his wife three divorces. Then she came while pregnant and denied the pregnancy. He replied: He will perform li'an (mutual cursing). The narrator says that Hazrat Harith said: O Abu Umar! Indeed, Allah, the Lord of Honor, has stated in His Book: Those who accuse their wives... Did he accuse his wife? Upon this, Hazrat Shabi said: Indeed, I feel shy that when I recognize the truth, I do not turn towards it.

Hazrat Hakam and Hazrat Hammad state that it is narrated from Ibrahim regarding the man who gave his wife an irrevocable divorce and then accused her: He (Ibrahim) said, "He will be flogged."

Hazrat Usman Bati narrates that Hazrat Qasim bin Muhammad used to say about a man who had divorced his wife, then said to her: "You committed adultery while you were my wife." He (Qasim bin Muhammad) said: He will perform li'an (mutual cursing).
