Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Qatadah states that it is narrated from Hasan Basri and Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) regarding the man who sells his wife: It was said that he will be punished and will be given a severe and exemplary punishment.

Hazrat Hammad bin Salamah narrates that Hazrat Qatadah reports about a man who sold a woman while both of them were free. They were both caught near the bridge and there were dinars between them. So a letter was written to Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz regarding both of them, and he replied: Both should be punished and both should be imprisoned.

Hazrat Ikrimah narrates that regarding two men, it is reported from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) that one of them sold the other. He said: The sale will be annulled and both of them will be punished, but the punishment of cutting off the hand will not be carried out on either of them.

Hazrat Khallas narrates that Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: His hand will be cut off.

Hazrat Muammar states that it is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Shihab about a man who sold a free man. He said: Both of them will be punished: that is, the person who sold him and the one who confessed to the sale, and it will be a painful punishment.

Hazrat Muammar narrates that it is reported from Hazrat Ibn Shihab regarding a man who sold his daughter, and the buyer had intercourse with her. The girl's father said: Necessity compelled me to sell her. You said: Both of them should be given one hundred lashes each, the father and his daughter, if the girl is of age, and the price should be returned to the buyer, and the buyer will be liable to pay the girl's dowry because of having intercourse with her, then the father will be responsible for paying the dowry unless the buyer knew that she was free, then the dowry will be obligatory on him and the father will not be responsible for paying the dowry, and he will be given one hundred lashes, and if the girl is a minor and not intelligent, then a severe punishment will be carried out on the father.

Hazrat Mughira narrates that it is reported from Hazrat Hammad regarding a woman who, due to her work, sold her sister. So a man bought her and had intercourse with her. He (Hammad) said: The man will be returned his money, and he will pay a small amount as dowry to the girl.
