Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Ash'ath narrates that it is reported from Hasan Basri regarding the person who said to a man: "So-and-so informed me that you committed adultery." He (Hasan Basri) said: The punishment of qadhf (false accusation of adultery) will not be carried out on him, because he attributed this statement to someone else.

Hazrat Sha'bi says that a man said to someone: So-and-so has said that surely you are an adulterer. He (Sha'bi) said: If he brings evidence, then fine; otherwise, the punishment (hadd) will be imposed on that person.
