Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abu Ishaq narrates that it is reported from a man of my tribe that a woman from the Sabiriyin region committed adultery. Her family made her wear an iron coat of mail and presented her before Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), so he flogged her while she was wearing it.

Hazrat Suwar narrates that I was present with Hazrat Abu Barzah when he struck his slave-girl who had committed adultery, while she was wearing a veil.

Hazrat Sha’bah narrates that Hazrat Hammad said: As for the adulterer, his clothes will be removed, and he recited this verse: Translation: And do not let pity for them seize you concerning Allah’s religion. The narrator says: I said, “This verse is about the ruling.” He replied: This is about the ruling and about the lashes.

Hazrat Waleed bin Abu Malik narrates that a man who had committed adultery was brought to Hazrat Abu Ubaidah bin Jarrah. The man said, "This sinful body deserves to be beaten," and then he took off his cloak. But Hazrat Abu Ubaidah refused to beat him in that manner and put his cloak back on him.
