Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Ibn Shurmah narrates that I was with Imam Sha’bi when a man was brought who had been caught in a matter of hadd (prescribed punishment) or accusation. So he (Imam Sha’bi) carried out the hadd on him while he was wearing a shirt on his body; I do not know what was underneath it.

Hazrat Mujahid and Ibrahim stated: The one who falsely accuses should be beaten while he is clothed.

Hazrat Saad bin Ibrahim narrates that his father Ibrahim said: Surely, I will mention the skin of the goat about which my mother ordered, so it was slaughtered. When Hazrat Umar flogged Hazrat Abu Bakrah, he placed its skin on his back due to the severity of the beating.

Hazrat Mutarrif narrates that Hazrat Sha'bi said: The one who falsely accuses should be flogged while he is wearing clothes, except that it should not be a fur-lined garment or a cloak filled with cotton, so that he feels the severity of the lashes.

Hazrat Waleed bin Abu Malik narrates that a man was brought to Hazrat Abu Ubaidah bin Jarrah regarding a punishment. The man began to take off his shirt himself and said: "It is not appropriate for this sinful body of mine to be beaten while wearing a shirt." Hazrat Abu Ubaidah said: "Do not let him take off his shirt." Thus, he was flogged while he was still wearing his shirt.

Hazrat Sha’bah narrates that Hazrat Hammad said: The one who falsely accuses should be beaten while he is wearing clothes.

Ismail narrates that Hasan Basri said: When a man accuses someone during winter, he will not be made to wear summer clothes, but he will be flogged in the same clothes in which he made the accusation. And when he accuses someone during summer, he will not be made to wear winter clothes; he will be flogged in the same clothes in which he made the accusation.

Ibrahim narrates that his mother said: Indeed, I will certainly mention the goat's skin. Then she related the same subject as mentioned in the previous hadith of Ibn ‘Ulayyah.
