Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Thumama narrates that when the slave of Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) committed adultery, he would enforce the prescribed punishment (hadd) upon him.

Hazrat Abu Huraira, Hazrat Shibl, and Hazrat Zaid bin Khalid narrate that we were with the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when a man asked him about a slave woman who commits adultery before being married. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Flog her. Then if she commits adultery again, flog her. On the third or fourth time, the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then sell her, even if it is for a rope made of hair.

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that news reached the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding a slave girl belonging to some people, that she had committed a sin. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me to her and said: "Go and establish the prescribed punishment on her." So I went and found her in such a state that her blood had not yet dried. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Have you finished?" I replied: "I found her in such a state that her blood had not yet dried!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When her blood dries, then flog her." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed: "Establish the prescribed punishments on those under your authority."

Hazrat Amr bin Shurahbil narrates that Hazrat Ma'qil Muzani came to Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas'ud and said, "My slave-girl has committed adultery, so have her flogged!" Upon this, Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas'ud said, "Flog her with fifty lashes." He asked, "What if she commits adultery again?" He replied, "Flog her."

Hazrat Hasan bin Muhammad bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Hazrat Fatimah enforced the prescribed punishment (hadd) on her maidservant.

Hazrat Kharijah bin Zaid narrates that Hazrat Zaid enforced the prescribed punishment (hadd) upon his slave woman.

Hazrat Abu Qalabah narrates that when the slave girl of Hazrat Abu al-Muhallab committed a bad deed, he would flog her in the assembly of his people.

Ibrahim narrates that when the servants of the Companions committed adultery, they would call them and flog them in gatherings.

Hazrat Nafi' narrates that Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) used to beat his slave-girl when she committed adultery.

Hazrat Ash'ath's father narrates that I was present with Hazrat Abu Barzah. He struck his slave-girl who had committed a sinful act. The narrator says that the slave-girl was wrapped in a sheet and there was a group of people with him. He recited this verse: Translation: "And a group of the believers should witness their punishment."

Hazrat Amr bin Murrah narrates that Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Abi Laila said: I found the elders of the Ansar that when a slave-girl committed adultery, they used to beat her in their gatherings.

Ibrahim states that Hazrat Alqama and Hazrat Aswad used to enforce the prescribed punishment on the slave women of the neighborhood in gatherings when they committed adultery.

Hazrat Jabir narrates that Hazrat Abu Ja'far said: In the neighborhood, purify only your own slaves.

Hazrat Abu Ishaq narrates that Hazrat Abu Maisarah used to beat the slave women of his tribe and purify them.

Hazrat Mansur says that I met Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Ma'qal, so I asked him: What is your opinion regarding that slave girl about whom your father had asked Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas'ud, who had committed adultery and you had ordered her to be flogged: Was she married? He replied: No.

Hazrat Abu Huraira narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: When a slave-girl belonging to any of you commits adultery, he should flog her. If she commits adultery again, he should flog her again. If she commits adultery yet again, he should sell her, even if it is in exchange for a rope made of hair.
