Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Ikrimah, who is the freed slave of Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them), narrates that it is reported from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) regarding a slave who accuses a free person falsely, he said: He will be given forty lashes.

Hazrat Mak'hool and Hazrat Ata state that Hazrat Umar and Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with them) both used to administer forty lashes to a slave who accused a free person of adultery.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Amir bin Rabee'ah narrates that Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddiq, Hazrat Umar bin Khattab, and Hazrat Uthman bin Affan — all these noble companions would not lash a slave for accusation with more than forty lashes, but then I saw these noble companions increased it beyond that.

Hazrat Mutahhar says that Hazrat Sha'bi said: He will be given forty lashes.

Hazrat Abu Ma'shar narrates that Ibrahim said: He will be given forty lashes.

Hazrat Qatadah narrates that Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: This slave will be given forty lashes.

This statement is also narrated from Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib and Hasan Basri with this chain of transmission.

Yunus narrates that Hasan Basri said: He will be given forty lashes.

Hazrat Hanzala narrates that Hazrat Qasim said: He will be given forty lashes.

Hazrat Saeed bin Hassan narrates that Hazrat Mujahid said: It is forty lashes.

Hazrat Qais bin Saad narrates that Hazrat Tawoos said: This slave will be given forty lashes.

Hazrat Sha’bah says that I asked Hazrat Hakam and Hazrat Hammad? Both of them said: He will be given forty lashes.

Hazrat Muhammad bin Rashid says that Hazrat Mak'hool stated: He will be given forty lashes.
