Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Qasim bin Abdur Rahman narrates that a man brought a slave girl from Qadisiyyah. He passed by a person who was standing on a mount. That person pricked the mount’s rump with a nail to make it run faster, so the animal lifted its legs and the slave girl’s eye was struck without missing the mark. This matter was presented before Hazrat Salman bin Rabee’ah Bahili, so he held the rider liable. This news reached Hazrat Ibn Mas’ud, so he said, “Bring that man to me, for the one who pricked with the nail will be held liable.”

Hazrat Jabir narrates that I asked Hazrat Amir Sha'bi about a person who pierced a nail into the rump of someone’s animal. He replied: The one who pierced the nail will be held liable.

Hazrat Sha'bi narrates that Hazrat Shurayh said: Except if a person has pricked the animal with a nail to make it run fast on the haunch, then the one who pricked with the nail will be held liable.
