Those Who Say: Retaliation Is Only by the Sword
Hadith 29536
٢٩٥٣٦ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا عيسى بن يونس عن أشعث وعمرو عن ⦗٢٢٤⦘ الحسن قال: قال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "لا قود إلا بالسيف" (١).
Hasan Basri narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Retaliation (qisas) will not be carried out except by means of the sword.
Hadith 29537
٢٩٥٣٧ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا جرير عن مغيرة عن إبراهيم في الرجل يقتل الرجل بالحصى أو يمثل به قال: إنما القود بالسيف، لم يكن من أمرهم المثلة.
Hazrat Mughira narrates that Ibrahim was asked about a man who kills someone by throwing pebbles at him or mutilates him. He replied: Indeed, retribution (qisas) will be carried out by the sword, because mutilation was not the way of the Companions.
Hadith 29538
٢٩٥٣٨ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا وكيع عن محمد بن قيس عن الشعبي قال: لا قود إلا بحديدة.
Hazrat Muhammad bin Qais narrates that Hazrat Sha'bi said: Qisas (retaliation) will not be carried out except with an iron instrument.
Hadith 29539
٢٩٥٣٩ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا عبدة بن سليمان عن ابن أبي عروبة عن أبي معشر عن إبراهيم قال: لا قود إلا بحديدة.
Hazrat Abu Ma'shar narrates that Ibrahim said: Qisas (retaliation) will not be carried out except with an iron instrument.
Hadith 29540
٢٩٥٤٠ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا عبدة عن سعيد عن قتادة عن الحسن مثله.
Hazrat Qatadah states that this aforementioned saying is also narrated from Hasan Basri.
