Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Zuhri stated that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, decreed the full blood money (diyah) for injury to the spinal cord.

It is narrated from Hazrat Zaid that there is full blood money (diyah) for the backbone.

Hasan said that there is full blood money (diyah) for the backbone.

Hazrat Zuhri stated that there is consensus among the scholars that the full blood money (diyah) is due for injury to the spinal cord.

Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair says that there is full blood money (diyah) for the backbone.

Hazrat Amr bin Shu'aib narrates that Abu Bakr said regarding a man's backbone that when it breaks and he cannot bear a load, then the full blood money (diyah) is due; and if he can bear a load, then he decreed half the blood money.

Hazrat Mujahid said that if the backbone is broken and then joins again, and his semen is cut off (i.e., there is such a loss that his lineage cannot continue), then his compensation will be full blood money. And if the semen is not cut off and there is some crookedness in his back, then it will be considered (i.e., the compensation will be according to the extent of the loss).

Hazrat Ibn Jurayj said that I asked Ata about the back when it is broken? He replied that there is blood money (diyah) for it.

Hazrat Muhammad bin Abdullah said that I was present with Ibn Zubair regarding the case of a man whose back had been broken, then he stood up and could not sit; he would walk while standing. So Ibn Zubair said (about this man), then he walked, and Ibn Zubair decided two-thirds of the blood money (diyah) for him.

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said that when the back is broken and he is unable to have intercourse, then full blood money (diyah) will be due for it.
