Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Ghalib Abdi narrates that a person from the tribe of Banu Namir relates from his grandfather that he said: I submitted: O Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him! My father sends you greetings. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Peace be upon you and your father as well. I submitted: O Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him! My people wish to appoint me as a supervisor. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: A supervisor is necessary. And the supervisor will be in Hell.

Hazrat Abu Saeed narrates from a man whose name he did not mention. He heard Hazrat Anas saying: Destruction is for the administrators and overseers, and among them, there will be one who will wish that he could cling to the star Thurayya.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Shaqiq narrates that Hazrat Habib bin Hida said: I would prefer to be cut into pieces rather than be appointed as a supervisor over ten people for a year.

Hazrat Usman bin Hakeem narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Usman, who was a man from the tribe of Banu Salool, says that my people called me so that they could appoint me as an overseer and select me for this position. You refused and left it. You went to Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him), consulted him, and sought his opinion. He said: Never become an overseer over them. The next morning, those people came to you again and kept insisting until they appointed you for it. You went to Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) and informed him that you had been compelled. Upon this, he said: Its beginning is recommendation, its middle is betrayal, and its end is the punishment of Hell.

Hazrat Ghalib says that we were sitting when a man entered and said that my grandfather says that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever initiates greeting among people will surpass them by ten good deeds. The narrator says: My father sent me to the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: Go and convey my greetings to the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and say to him that I request you to appoint me as a guardian after you. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Guardianship and administration are indeed rightful. Guardianship and administration are indeed rightful. It is necessary to appoint a guardian, but the guardian will be in a difficult position.

Hazrat Humaid bin Hilal narrates that Hazrat Abu al-Sawar said: By Allah! I prefer that the blackness of my eye should spread into the circle of my eye rather than becoming a supervisor.

Hazrat Mehri narrates that Hazrat Abu Hurairah instructed me: O Mehri! Do not become a collector of revenue, nor a supervisor, nor a soldier.
