Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abu Ishaq says that Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood considered it disliked for a person to spit to the right side even outside of prayer. Hazrat Aban asked the narrator: From whom did you narrate this? He replied: From Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Yazid, who narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him).

Hazrat Ibn Aun narrates that Hazrat Ibn Sirin had a closed door on his left side. He used to go there and spit at that place.

Hazrat Mus'ar states that Hazrat Sa'd bin Ibrahim said: It is part of a man's wisdom to know where he spits.

Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Yazid narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) was sitting facing the Qiblah. He intended to spit to his left side, but that place was crowded. So he considered it undesirable to spit to his right side.

Hazrat Humaid bin Hilal narrates that Hazrat Mu'adh spat to his right side one day, then said: "Ah, alas! Since I have been in the company of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), or he said: since I embraced Islam, I have not done this."

Hazrat Humaid bin Hilal narrates that Hazrat Abu Bakr, during his final illness, spat to his right side. And he said: I have never done this except only once, or he said: I have never done this except for one time.
