Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Kardus narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Surely, hearts also have times of enthusiasm and attention, and also times of laziness and weariness. Tell people only that which will attract their attention towards you.

Hazrat Abu Salil narrates that a companion of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us, so people gathered around him. He climbed onto the roof of the house and narrated a hadith to the people.

Hazrat Abu Talha narrates that when Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Kufa, we gathered around him. We requested him to narrate to us any hadith he had heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say: O people! Go away from me, until we would compel him greatly, then he (peace and blessings be upon him) would say: If you knew what I know, you would weep more and laugh less. O people! Go away from me, so we returned from his presence.

Abu Hilal narrates that Hasan Basri said: "Tell people that which will attract their attention towards you; when they turn their attention to you, then know that they also have needs."

Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pause in giving admonition and advice out of concern that we might become weary.

Ibrahim says that whenever Alqamah saw his students cheerful and happy, he would advise and admonish them.

Hazrat Ubaidullah bin Adi bin Khiyar narrates that Hazrat Umar said: Do not make Allah, the Exalted, hated by His servants. Among you, when someone is an imam, he prolongs the prayer for them. And when someone is a preacher, he lengthens his speech for them.
