Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abu Umamah bin Sahl narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: None of you should say, "I am an evil-souled or ill-natured person," rather he should say, "I am a person with a faulty soul."

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: None of you should say, "I am evil-hearted," rather say, "I am a person with a flawed soul."

Hazrat Simak Hanafi states that Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) considered it disliked to say, "I am lazy."

Hazrat Abu Rashid narrates that the sister of Hazrat Ubaid bin Umair requested him to intercede for a certain man. She said: "Indeed, he is the one, by Allah and by your oath." You became angry and said: "Indeed, he is the one, by Allah's oath."

Hazrat Mukhtar says that I heard Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz disliked saying: "O Allah! Bestow charity upon us." But he used to say: "O Allah! Bestow favor upon us."
