Hadith 28112
Hazrat Jabir narrates that Hazrat Umar bin Khattab brought a page from the book of the People of the Book to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! I have found a very good book from the People of the Book. The narrator says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) became angry and said: O Ibn Khattab! Are you still astonished about this? By Him in Whose hand is my soul, indeed I have brought to you a clear and radiant religion. Do not ask the People of the Book about anything, for they may tell you something true and you will deny it, or they may tell you something false and you will affirm it. By Him in Whose hand is my soul, if Musa (Moses) were alive today, he would have no choice but to follow me.
Hadith 28113
Hazrat Ata bin Yasar narrates that the Jews used to come to the Muslims and tell them things from their books which the Muslims liked. So the Companions mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. Then he, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Do not affirm them, nor deny them. Rather, say: We believe in Allah, and in what He has revealed to us, and in what He has revealed to you, up to the end of the verse.
Hadith 28114
Hazrat Ikrimah narrates that Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) said: You people ask the People of the Book about their books, while you have the Book of Allah with you, which is closer to Allah's covenant than all other books. You only recite the Qur'an so that you may not be deceived.
Hadith 28115
Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Yazid narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Do not ask the People of the Book about anything, for you may deny the truth or affirm something false. Surely, they will never guide you to the straight path. They themselves have gone astray. In each of their hearts is a desire that calls him to his own religion, just like the desire for wealth.
