Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Sahl bin Sa’d narrates that a person peeped into the chamber of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) through a hole, at a time when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had a comb with which he was scratching his head. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If I had known that you were looking, I would have struck your eye with this comb. This is because permission is sought only due to the eye.

Hazrat Abu Suwaid Abdi narrates that we were seeking permission at the door of Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) when my gaze fell and he saw me and said, "Who among you peeked into my house?" I replied, "I did... may Allah keep you right... my gaze suddenly fell and I saw." He said, "Woe to you! Why did you peek into my house?!"

Hazrat Huzail bin Shurahbeel narrates that Hazrat Sa’d put his head inside and sought permission from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Upon this, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Indeed, seeking permission has been prescribed because of the gaze.

It is narrated from Hasan that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever peeks into a house beforehand, it is as if he has entered it.

Hazrat Huzail narrates that a man came and stood at the door of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and began to seek permission. He was standing right at the door. Upon this, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Come from here to here, for permission is sought because of the eye."

Hazrat Abu Huraira narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: If a person peeps at some people without their permission, it is lawful for them to gouge out his eye.

Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was in the house when a man peeped through a crack in the door. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) threw the tip of a spear at him, so the man moved back.

Hazrat Muslim bin Nazeer narrates that a man put his head inside and sought permission from Hazrat Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him). Upon this, Hazrat Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: Since you have already put your head inside, now put your buttocks inside as well!
