Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Ibn Sirin narrates that Hazrat Alaa bin Al-Hadrami wrote a letter to the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), so he began with himself.

Imam Muhammad says that Hazrat Abu Musa wrote a letter in this way! From Abdullah bin Qais to Amir bin Abdullah.

Hazrat Maymun bin Mehran narrates that Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) wrote a letter to Hazrat Umar, and he wrote as follows: From Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) to Umar. Hazrat Maymun said: Indeed, this is such a thing by which non-Arabs give preference to one another.

Hazrat Kahmas narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Muslim bin Yasar said to me: "Is there any harm for me in not beginning a letter in this manner?! Because he would not begin a letter except with a trustworthy person, whereas a man begins with his father."

Hazrat Mu'adh bin Mu'adh says that I wrote a letter to Hazrat Shu'bah in Baghdad and began with my own name, so he wrote back to me forbidding me from doing so and mentioned that Hazrat Hakam considered this disliked.
