Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Asim narrates that Imam Muhammad said: The rider should greet the one who is walking, and the one who is walking should greet the one who is sitting, and when two people meet in the same state, the better of them should initiate the greeting.

Hazrat Husain narrates that I and Imam Sha’bi met a mounted man, so Imam Sha’bi initiated the greeting of Salam. I said, “You are initiating Salam even though we both are on foot and he is mounted?” He replied, “I saw Hazrat Shurayh greet a mounted person with Salam.”

Hazrat Burd narrates that Hazrat Makhool and Hazrat Sulaiman bin Musa, both of these personalities, stated: The younger will greet the elder with salam, the one who is standing will greet the one who is sitting with salam, the rider will greet the one who is walking with salam, and the few will greet the many with salam.
