Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Asma bint Yazid narrates that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by us women, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) greeted us with salam.

Hazrat Jarir narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by some women and he (peace and blessings be upon him) greeted them with salam.

Hazrat Mujahid narrates that Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) passed by a woman who was sitting in the shade, and he greeted her with salam.

Hazrat Bishr bin Harb narrates that I saw Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) pass by a woman, and he greeted her with salam.

Hazrat Mujahid narrates that Hazrat Umar passed by some women and he greeted them with salam.

Hazrat Zar reports that I asked Hazrat Ata about greeting women with salam. He replied: If those women are young, then do not do so.

Hazrat Ibn Aun narrates that I asked Imam Muhammad: Can a woman be greeted with salam? He replied: I do not see any harm in it.

Hazrat Amr says that Hasan Basri did not consider it appropriate to greet women with salam, except that if he entered the house of that woman, then he could greet her with salam.

Hazrat Abdul Aziz Qareer narrates that a man came to Hasan and asked: Can women be greeted with salam? He replied: Go and join your own wife.

Hazrat Ubaidullah narrates that Hazrat Amr bin Maymoon used to greet women and children with salam.

Hazrat Amr bin Uthman narrates that I saw Hazrat Musa bin Talha pass by some seated women and he greeted them with salam.

Hazrat Sha’bah says that I asked Hazrat Hakam and Hazrat Hammad both about greeting women with salam. Hazrat Hammad considered it disliked (makruh) to greet both old and young women, and Hazrat Hakam said: Hazrat Shurayh used to greet everyone with salam. I asked: Even women? He replied: He used to greet everyone.
