Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Trim the moustache thoroughly and let the beard grow.

Hazrat Zaid bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever does not trim his mustache is not from among us.

Hazrat Usman Hatibi narrates that I saw Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) trimming his moustache excessively.

Hazrat Habib says that I saw Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) indeed he cut his moustache and shaved it completely.

Hazrat Hisham states that Hasan and Muhammad, both of these gentlemen, used to trim their moustaches excessively.

Hazrat Yahya bin Saeed narrates that I saw Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) being very thorough in trimming his moustache.

Hazrat Ubaidullah bin Abi Rafi’ says: I saw Hazrat Abu Sa’eed and Hazrat Rafi’ bin Khadij, Hazrat Salamah bin Akwa’, Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them), Hazrat Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him), and Jundub Abu Sud. All these companions would completely trim their moustaches from the roots, just like shaving the head.

Hazrat Mak'hool states that Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We have been commanded to trim our moustaches so much that the skin becomes completely visible.

Hazrat Abdul Aziz bin Umar narrates that Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz was asked: What is the Sunnah method of trimming the moustache? He replied: Trim it so much that the length becomes apparent, and cut off whatever exceeds the lips.

Hazrat Maymun narrates that Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) used to extend his moustache in width and then trim it, just as the hair of a goat is trimmed.

Hazrat Ubaidullah bin Abdullah bin Utbah narrates that a man from among the Magians came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. He had shaved his beard and grown his mustache long. The Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, asked him: "What is this?" He replied: "This is how it is in our religion." The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "But in our religion, the way is that we trim the mustache and let the beard grow."

Hazrat Ikrimah narrates that Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) said: Trimming the moustache is part of the religion.

Hazrat Ikrimah narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to trim his moustache, or he said, used to cut his moustaches.

Hazrat Abu Zubair narrates that Hazrat Jabir said: We were commanded to let the hair of the front part of the beard grow and to trim the moustache.

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Trimming the moustache and letting the beard grow are from the natural disposition (fitrah).
