Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Samak bin Yazid narrates that Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) used to remove hair from that part of his beard which was joined to his face.

Hazrat Abu Zar'ah narrates that Hazrat Abu Hurairah used to hold his beard in his fist, and then he would cut off the part that exceeded the fist.

Hazrat Mansur says that I heard Hazrat Ata bin Abi Rabah saying that the Companions liked to let their beards grow except during Hajj or Umrah, and Ibrahim used to trim the edges of his beard.

Hazrat Ibn Tawoos narrates that his father, Hazrat Tawoos, used to trim his beard and he did not show leniency in this matter.

Hazrat Ash'ath narrates that Hasan said: The Companions permitted that if the beard exceeded a fistful, it could be trimmed.

Hazrat Aflah narrates that when Hazrat Qasim would shave his head, he would also trim his beard and moustache.

Hazrat Nafi' narrates that Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) used to trim the beard that exceeded a fistful, and Hazrat Waki' narrated these words that when the beard exceeded a fistful, he would trim it.

Hazrat Qatadah says that Hazrat Jabir stated: We would not trim the length of the beard except during Hajj or Umrah.

Hazrat Abu Zar'ah states that when Hazrat Abu Hurairah's beard exceeded a fistful, he would trim it.

Hazrat Abu Hilal states that I asked both Hasan Basri and Hazrat Ibn Sirin about this matter: so both of them said: There is no harm if you trim the length of your beard.

Hazrat Mansur says that Ibrahim stated: The companions used to trim the hair under the chin and also trim the hair at the edges of the beard.
