Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abu Huraira narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: No son can repay his father, except that he finds his father as a slave, then buys him and sets him free.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I asked: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Which deed is the best? He (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: Performing the prayer at its appointed time. I asked: Then which deed is the best? He (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: Showing kindness to parents.

Hazrat Abu Darda narrates that I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: "The father is the middle gate of Paradise, so if you wish, safeguard it, and if you wish, squander it."

Hazrat Hisham narrates that Hasan said: The mother's share in good conduct is equal to two-thirds, and the father's is equal to one-third.

Hazrat Abu Salam Al-Salami narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: A man was advised three times regarding good conduct towards his mother, and he was advised regarding good conduct towards his father, and he was advised regarding his master even if the master causes him harm.

Hazrat Abu Huraira narrates that a man came to the service of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Tell me, among the people, who is most deserving of my good conduct?" Upon this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Yes! By your father, you will surely be informed: your mother is most deserving." The man asked, "Then who?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Your mother." He asked, "Then who?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Your mother!" He asked, "Then who?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Your father."

Hazrat Ammarah Abu Saeed narrates that I asked Hasan: What is the extreme of disobedience to parents? He replied: It is that you deprive them and sever ties with them, and that you look at both of them with anger. O Ammarah! How good was the treatment with them!

Hazrat Yunus bin Ubaid says that there is hope of Paradise for the one who is obedient to his parents, and there is the fear of Hell for the one who is disobedient to his parents.

Hasan narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Showing kindness to parents is a part of Jihad.

Hazrat Saad bin Masood narrates that Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) said: If a Muslim’s parents are alive and he spends the morning treating both of them well, Allah opens two doors of Paradise for him. And if any Muslim spends the evening treating both of them badly, Allah opens two doors of Hell for him. And if either one of them is displeased with him, Allah is not pleased with him until he pleases the one who is displeased. The narrator says: I asked, “Even if both of them are unjust?” He replied: “Yes, even if both of them are unjust.”

Hazrat Abu Saeed narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The disobedient, the one who always drinks alcohol, and the one who reminds others of his favors will not enter Paradise.

Hazrat Muawiyah bin Ishaq narrates that Hazrat Urwah bin Zubair said: Whoever looked at his father with a harsh gaze has not shown obedience.

Hazrat Laith says that Hazrat Mujahid explained the meaning of this verse as follows, verse { فَلاَ تَقُلْ لَہُمَا أُفٍّ }: When both of them reach old age and begin to do those actions which he used to do in his childhood, then he should not say "uff" to them.

Hazrat Muhammad bin Talhah bin Muawiyah bin Jahimah al-Sulami narrates that his father said: I came to the service of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and I said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! I want to go with you for jihad in the way of Allah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Is your mother alive? I said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Yes. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Stay close to her feet (serve her), for there is Paradise.

Hazrat Hisham bin Urwah narrates that his father, Hazrat Urwah bin Zubair, explained the interpretation of this verse as follows. Verse { فَلاَ تَقُلْ لَہُمَا أُفٍّ } Translation: Do not even say "Uff" to them. He said: This means that when both of them intend to do something or like something, do not stop them.

Hazrat Maymun bin Abi Shabib narrates that Hazrat Mu'adh bin Jabal was asked: What is the right of a father over his children? He replied: Even if you leave your family and your wealth for them, you still have not fulfilled their right. Hazrat Shu'bah states that this hadith has also been narrated by Hazrat Mansur bin Zadhan from Hazrat Hakam.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The disobedient, the one who constantly drinks alcohol, and the one who reminds others of his favors will not enter Paradise.
