Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Talha narrates from the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Angels do not enter a house in which there is a dog or a picture."

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: "Angels do not enter a house in which there is a dog or a picture."

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her). She says that Hazrat Jibreel had promised the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) to come at a certain time, but he was delayed from that time. So the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) came outside and at that time Hazrat Jibreel was found standing at the door. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him, "What prevented you from entering?" He said, "There is a dog in the house, and we do not enter a house in which there is a dog or a picture."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Rafi. He says that Hazrat Jibreel came and sought permission from the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) granted him permission, but he (Jibreel) delayed in coming to him. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gathered his blessed cloak and went towards him, and saw him at the door. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "We have granted you permission." Jibreel said: "Yes, but we do not enter a house in which there is a dog or a picture."

It is narrated from Hazrat Khalid bin Sa'd. He says that Hazrat Abu Mas'ud was invited to a place for a meal. He saw a picture in the house, so he did not enter until the picture was broken.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aslam. He says that when Hazrat Umar came to Syria, a man from among the farmers came to him and said: I have prepared food for you, and I would like you to come so that my workers may see your honor and status at my place... or he said something to this effect... Hazrat Umar replied: We do not enter those synagogues and churches in which there are pictures.

Hazrat Ja'far narrates from his father about Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that he used to dislike pictures in houses.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira. He says that angels do not enter a house in which there is a dog or a picture.

Hazrat Usama bin Zaid says: My father narrated to me that he held a wedding feast for his brother. And Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) also came and saw a picture in the house. So he erased it or rubbed it out, then said: I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say, "Angels do not enter a house in which there is a dog or a picture."

Hazrat Ibn Buraidah narrates from his father, who says that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Angels do not enter a house in which there is a dog."

It is narrated from Hazrat Mak'hool. He says that there was a painted ram on the shield of the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). This was burdensome for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Then, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) woke up in the morning, Allah Almighty had erased it.

It is narrated from Hazrat Usama. He says: I entered and saw signs of distress on the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). I asked, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! What has happened to you?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Jibreel had promised me for three days that he would come to me, but he has not come." During this time, a dog passed by. Hazrat Usama says: I put my hand on my head and cried out. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) began to say, "O Usama! What happened to you?" I said, "A dog passed by." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered it to be killed, and it was killed. Then Hazrat Jibreel came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) rushed towards him. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What happened to you? You were late, whereas when you make a promise to me, you do not break it." Hazrat Jibreel said: "We do not enter a house in which there is a dog or a picture."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Ja'far that the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family) would not enter a house in which there was a dog or a picture. And Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) would also not enter a house in which there was a picture.
